How this classic came to be is almost as good as the film itself. This
was the movie Ford wanted to make for a good many years and Hollywood
studios wouldn't bite. First Ford had to make a movie he didn't want
to make "Fort Apache" to get out of his contractual commitments with
Warner Bros( not really sure about this) then he got nixed by every
studio for "The Quiet Man" because he HAD to shoot it in Ireland. Way
too expensive! And The Script! John Wayne a PACIFIST! A man who
wouldn't fight! No studio wanted it. Then Republic Pictures way down
the line, just up the street from Monogram! of Hollywood studios more
known for B-movies and movie serials took the chance and the rest is
history! And that's how The Classic "The Quiet Man" came to be.

"poverty row" made Capra's "It's a Wonderful Life."
