Until yesterday, when I applied the latest Xorg patches to a stock x86
Solaris 10, I had a working nvidia driver and properly accellerated
graphics. Today I've had to revert to the nv driver as my existing
installed driver now fails. I've tried the latest nvidia drivers from
www.nvidia.com (the new, beta and legacy releases) without success. They all
install OK, but can't find any display. Xerrors contains...

Has anybody any ideas what the problem may be? I've had a look at the
nvidia forums and seen a couple of similar reports but no useful replies
yet.

The graphic hardware is GEFORCE 420 on a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 laptop.

Thanks,

I had a different but similar experience yesterday. Similar, because
the trouble started after I too added the Xorg patches. It seems they
used newer parts of Xorg and it breaks some older drivers. For me, the
"keyboard" driver broke and Nvidia would not work because the xserver
wouldn't start without a "core keyboard". To solve my problem, I simply
edited my xorg.conf file and changed the keyboard drive from "keyboard"
to "kbd" where "keyboard" is an old driver and "kbd" is the latest
keyboard driver.

To sum it up for you, look at what drivers you have and see if there are
any newer ones.
