CSP systems are one of the key technologies of the 21st century. However the
troughs are aligned on a north-south axis, and so must be rotated to track
the sun as it moves across the sky each day. So thousands of square meters
of mirrors must be rotated!

The ideas presented in the attached pdf on the page http://groups.google.com/group/green-india/msg/f936cdd38ae29d66
shows some ideas which leads sunbeams directly to the solar concentrator which otherwise will be lost.
This makes it possible to think of CSP systems without moving mirrors!

I’m very interested in your opinion!

This "collecting mirrors" system looks completely silly. The main trough
mirrors will have to be rotated many times each season to accommodate the
suns change in elevation angle anyway. Why not track the sun more often
instead of less? Surely the miniscule energy to do this is not a
consideration.

As far as the collecting mirrors function, a larger absorptions surface
would do the same thing and not require polishing on a regular basis and be
a lot easier to keep clean than multiple reflective surfaces, keeping the
maintenance costs lower.
