Oil! Will discovery dampen solar energy uptake?

With the recent news regarding BP's new oil find, do you feel this
sort of headline gives consumers a 'false' hope that oil and other
traditional fossil fuels won't run out and that there's no need to
explore alternative energy generation?

We won't run out of petroleum for a fairly long time, but the price is
already increasing - and natural petroleum will become unafordable as a
fuel long before we run out.

At some point petro from algae will be less expensive than petro pumped
out of the ground, but you'll need to do your own predicting of the
timeline.

I would think that only a fool would choose to remain ignorant of
alternative energy sources - but the world has never been in short
supply of fools...
