Tell us more about "things seem to shut down---". Where did you get
the ammeter and what is its scale in amperes? Is it possible that you
connected the ammeter directly across the battery terminals? That would
certainly ruin it.
What do you mean "home made panels"? How do you know they are 60
watts, and what voltages are they? Are they all the same? Are the
panels connected in series or in parallel? What are the open circuit
voltages in bright sun? Why do you say that you have an "analog volt
meter that was working fine"? Are these meters simple panel meters or
are they analog "multimeters"?
How often do you need to "monitor"? A few times a day by just
walking by and looking at the meters? Once a minute for as long as the
sun is up? Do you want automatic reading and recording of the data?
