Where can I find a KWH meter to plug my freg into, to monitor the total
power it uses in 24 hours?

Regards
Kori

Here is one possibility:

If you want a KWH (kelvin Watt henry) metre get in touch with Nick Pine.

OTOH if you want a kWh (kilo Watt hour) meter then any electrical
supply wholesaler should be able to supply this.

You can get some of the mechanical kwhr meters used by most utilities
surplus thru Ebay for around $40. Just build a box around it. Cheapest way
to go.

There are basically three ways to go:

+ The "WattsUp?" meter for about $100 from on-line
retailers like JadeMountain and Real Goods, etc. I have
one of these and it seems to work well. Unfortunately
it will only measure loads of up to 1200 Watts. Surge
usage on fridges and washers may exceed this limit.

+ The Brand electronics kWh meter, from $150 and up. They
have a version that logs the energy usage which you can
download to your computer. You can find it on Ebay
sometimes. It also has a wattage limit of about 2000 Watts
I believe.

+ A regular utility power meter which you can wire up with
AC plugs into a box. You can find these meters on ebay from
about $10.00 up (not including shipping). This is the cheapest
way to go, if you don't count your own labor and you enjoy
doing the work. Utility meters have
very high wattage limits since they are typically used to measure's
an entire house's energy usage. Of course, you have to check that
the other components you used in your setup are rated properly.

I got a kwhr meter for $12.00 off ebay but have not figured out how to get it to
read 110 volts. Putting 100 watts (light bulb) through one side makes the wheel
move somewhat but after 10 hours the end pointer did not move. I had thought it
should have recorded one kwh ? So this would be a cheap way to record 240 v
but maybe not 110v. Stevo

You can purchase a Watt meter (from us) that will display the power draw of
your refrigerator for less than $150.00. If you need to log and record
that power draw over a period of time then a data logger will cost
considerably more.

You are such a dufus George. Still smarting from his welding crack?

The guy just wanted a source, you could have supplied that without the
personal invective.

When a man like Nick can jump on anyone who in a discussion uses the
wrong unit or symbol as if it were then end of the world proceeds to
use "KWH" in a post it is no more than poetic justice to be called on
it.

As for welding cracks, this must be undertaken with meticulous
preparation to prevent the propagation of the crack through the weld.

Certainly not a job for a person like Nick, who has ten thumbs, the
assertion of ten thumbs is proven by making the same typo 3 times in
one post or one must assume that Nick realy does not know thw the
difference between "kWh" and "KWH".

he jumps less at kwh vs. kWh, and more at kw instead of kWh, a whole
different animal. a necessary distinction, though tact is not one of his
strong points ;-)
