Most Americans back gun lobby, right to use deadly force -
Reuters/Ipsos poll

http://in.reuters.com/article/2012/04/13/usa-guns-poll-idINDEE83C04D20120413

Most Americans support the right to use deadly force to protect
themselves - even in public places - and have a favourable view of the
National Rifle Association, the main gun-lobby group, a Reuters/Ipsos
poll showed.

The online survey showed that 68 percent, or two out of three
respondents, had a favorable opinion of the NRA, which starts its
annual convention in St. Louis, Missouri, on Friday.

Eighty-two percent of Republicans saw the gun lobbying group in a
positive light as well as 55 percent of Democrats -- findings running
counter to the image of supporters of the latter party being anti-NRA.

I worked as a pizzaboy while putting myself through college in the early
1990s, and one night I was robbed at gunpoint by a black man.

I delivered a pizza, a car pulls up and he gets out and points a gun at
me and takes all my money. I wasn't harmed, but I realized he targeted
me because my company forbade employees from carrying weapons.

The police were no help, and one actually laughed at me when I refused
to give him my Socialist Insecurity Number for his fuckin' report --
saying he was going to get it anyway. That made me so angry that I
decided I would refuse to identify the robber even if they caught him.
If armed police can't (and won't) protect me, that means I must protect
myself. The next Obama voter who tries to rob me is in for a big
surprise. And I'm not going to dial 911.

If Obama gets his way all law abiding citizens will be victims of the
scum bags. The far left would have only criminals armed, then again
the far left are a bunch of criminals and we OWE them.

I know many democrats at the range that would vote Romney if they
think that is Obama's agenda.

No, 55% of Democrats. There are liberal Republicans, there are
conservative Democrats. The number does seem awfully high, the
NRA isn't really a wonderful organization.

However, I absolutely agree that deadly force can be justified. But
that's the thing, it HAS to be justified. If your life is in danger,
as the
young lady clerk was a few months back, then absolutely, shoot and
shoot to kill. On the other hand, tracking someone down with a gun
and killing them .. that's murder.

The thing you gotta understand about the police is they aren't there
to protect. They are there to clean up the messy aftermath. That's
not their fault, it's just how it is. That's one of many reasons to
allow people to carry.

Well when I think liberal I think Zepp, RichTravsky and, Yoorghis.
Guess I need a separate word for them. One polite enough to post
with. Any suggestions.

Oh I agree mostly. The only thing Z did right was to call 911.

I've always wanted mandatory instruction to go with any concealed
weapons permit. More than just how to shoot, but at least that.

Extremist works. And, really, I think they would agree. They, like the
right wing extremists, want radical change in that direction. That
doesn't
make them bad people, it simply means they are more than a bit away
from center.

I am very happy to be called a liberal, even if realistically, I'm
not.

True. I have to wonder why he did that. Is the kid simply stupid?

For a long time, they did require it. And the NRA did back it. But the
NRA
gets its money from people that want more extreme things. Required
instruction?
Why? We know how to fire a gun.

I was marksman rated when I was younger. I'm hardly afraid of guns. I
simply don't
see the purpose to carrying them in polite society. You may disagree,
but I grew up
in NYC. In tight quarters, a gun is a bad thing.
