Microsoft to reverse course on Windows 8
May 7 2013 Microsoft is preparing to perform a U-turn over key aspects
of its much-maligned Windows 8 operating system. Andrew Hill, management

Next ... gotta get rid of this "cloud" crap .... not only
dangerous but a clear scheme to rip-off the masses
for the honor of being able to get to their own data
and use apps they've paid for. Oh yea, then there's
the data-mining-for-profit-and-Big-Bro that would be
so much facilitated by the 'cloud' scheme ....

I've been avoiding it like the cliche. I have a couple of cloud data
accounts, the freebie that comes with Ubuntu, and one of those encrypted
share folder deals which is useful for passing along large data files to
various friends. Beyond that, I stay well away.

I recently listened to some mobile phone salesparasite babble about "the
cloud," conveniently failing to mention how much less a pocket-sized
terabyte drive costs than accessing a terabyte of data over scarce
cellular frequencies.

Get several terabytes on a "cloud", and the cloud retrieval app
throttles the download until you'd need days to get it all back. But
yer clouded data is never erased until all helpful info has been
extracted. After all, close your account and those bits no longer

Anyone who uses the cloud for permanent storage is nuts. No argument
there.

For for sticking files temporarily either for file sharing or as a
temporary backup, it's fine. Prices go up, I'm gone.
