Black slavery. Sheesh that was waaaay back then. This is now. I'm
Irish and my ancestors were treated like crap too, and more recently
than black slavery. So why do blacks keep whining and are full of
bitterness about what happened 140+ years ago, while other ethnicities
have long since gotten over it? Simple. The left keeps telling them
what helpless victims they are, how cruel whitey is, and how evil
America is. The left hates America so the more people they can get
to hate America too the more powerful they think they are.
Happy Fourth of July--to those of you who love our great nation.
<YAWN!> Another knee-jerk blame-it-all-on-the-left reaction. I guess it
saves you the effort of thinking, though.

So let's hear your explanation for why blacks are so bitter and
whiney 140+ years after their bad experience yet the Irish, American
Indians etc have put their problems far behind them.
Because they make money off keeping hate & racism alive. If they let
it go, Jackson, Sharpton, Farrakhan & Wright would have to get a job.
Slavery ended 140+ years ago. It was replaced with the ruthless persecution
of post-Reconstruction and continued on until the Brown vs. Board of
Education decision in 1954. Even then segregation continued until the 1970s.
When I was in Louisiana in 1967 there were still White and Colored drinking
fountains and separate rest rooms. Barack Obama could not have been the
Democratic candidate for president in 1967. In most parts of the South he
wouldn't have even been allowed to vote. But the memory of active
discrimination is still alive in many blacks, and will be for some time. The
Obama presidency will heal a lot of wounds.
The Irish came here voluntarily, or as refugees or indentured servants. They
brought with them an intact culture, history and language. They were
discriminated against almost as badly as the blacks and Jews were, but by
the second generation they were indistinguishable from other Americans. A
second-generation black is still black. The Irish also worked together to
slowly take over the political process in several major cities, just as the
Jews bonded together in tight communities and gradually rose to take over
the business world.
Blacks were brought over primarily as slaves. Their language, culture, names
and history were stripped away and they were treated as little better than
bipedal farm animals. They have no common cultural base other than what
they've been able to cobble together since the end of slavery. But the scars
are still there. If a black American attempts to trace his ancestry, s/he
can't get further back than the 19th century, when his/her ancestor was
given the name of the master's family. An Irishman can trace his/her
ancestry back to the old country, sometimes for a thousand years.
As for the American Indians, who lost everything as well, I suggest a visit
to a reservation before you make the claim that they've put it all behind
them. Most Indians are well aware that this used to be their country and who
stole it from them. For many, the Trail of Tears happened yesterday.

I to am predominantly Irish and you are very right about our people
being treated like crap back then but i don't fret over it.Like you
said this is now.Blacks need to start thinking the same way,I know
some of them think they should be compensated for their ancestors
being slaves but it just dosn't work that way. They have made a lot of
progress since then and they will continue to as long as they don't
let theirselves be influenced by certain radical groups. They also need
to put riots on the back shelf, everytime they do riot all they acomp-
lish is destroying their own property's and that of their fellow
blacks and it also sets them back another 30-40 years,so they don't
really acomplish anything that way

Go back to the top of the thread. The complaint is about slavery.
If you want to vent hostilities about more recent injustices, you should
be angry at the Democratic party since a higher percentage of them
voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964 than Repubs.
It's undeniable that the typical modern black mentality is all about
whining and bitterness which only makes their situation worse and
accomplishes nothing. In the early 1990s we had violent race riots
over the verdict in the Rodney King beating. Then we all saw large
groups of blacks jumping and cheering when OJ Simpson was found
not guilty when it was irrefutable that he brutally murdered two people.
Cheering about getting away with a double murder?!?
Do you think a timid white employer would be eager to hire many
blacks after seeing these things? This kind of savagery badly hurts
the black cause. And blacks can't blame anybody but themselves.

What's wrong with the Irish becoming active in politics? Or Jews
becoming successful businessmen? You're obviously bitter that very
few blacks have had as much success. Maybe if they tended to focus
on constructive ideas rather than stewed in bitterness they could have
more success in politics and business?

That was then, long long ago. Let it go. Your bitterness and anger is
keeping you down and you don't even see it.
My favorite non-fiction author Larry Elder makes the point that blacks
in modern America should be thankful that their ancestors were brought
to America as slaves because their lives in America today are far
better than they would be if they were in Africa. It sounds callous but
he has a point.

I don't recall seeing any Indian race riots.
Your statement was "So why do blacks keep whining and are full of bitterness
about what happened 140+ years ago, while other ethnicities have long since
gotten over it?" I was simply explaining that the end of slavery wasn't the
end of discrimination, and giving examples to prove it. A sizeable
percentage of American blacks remember the active discrimination of the 40s,
50, and 60s. There's a tiny group beating the gong for "slavery
reparations," but it's a lost cause. Blacks have only wanted to be treated
like every other citizen, and that's finally happening, with resistance on
both sides.

You have to look at things from the black perspective in order to
understand. Yes, the officers in the Rodney King case did nothing illegal,
but from the black POV it was cops beating up on innocent black folks again,
something they've seen over and over again since Reconstruction. I actually
heard a black woman in a crowded mall tell her child that if she got lost,
she should not go to a policeman for help, exactly the opposite of what we
would tell a child. Police are seen as the enemy, which is why black
teenager run when stopped by the police.
Yes, OJ was a murderer, but thanks to an incompetent judge and dumb
proscecutors, he got off. The joy expressed by a few after the first OJ
trial was because a black man had beaten the white man's system, which has
rarely happened since Reconstruction. Look at the number of blacks who are
wary of Obama because he's "not black enough." Being ghettoized and
marginalized for a century and a half has created what from the Caucasian
standpoint is a very bizarre world view that's not going to go away
overnight, but it *will* eventually go away, just as the downtrodden Irish
world view went away..

Nothing is wrong with the Irish in politics and the Jews in business: it's
how each group responded to being an outcast in the society they were trying
to live in. Blacks went for entertainment and sports to carve a place for
themselves. Today there are black CEOs of major companies, and black women
have made enormous strides in the workplace since the barriers came down.
We have, as a nation, a problem with black males that nobody wants to deal
with. When 6% of the population represent 55% of the prison population,
something is very wrong. Nobody has an answer to why this is happening or
what to do about it.

No argument there. That's why all the back-to-Africa movements have fizzled
once people have seen what Africa is like. Like it or not, blacks in this
country are Americans and will never be Africans no matter how much they
pretend. When I lived in Africa I saw black American tourists and Peace
Corps Volunteers, who expected to be welcomed back to the motherland,
stunned when they were treated exactly like white Americans were-- even to
the point of being called the same native word as whites. The hurdle seems
to be getting black male Americans to accept their role as Americans and
join the society rather than trying to remain outside of it. That's why an
Obama presidency is so important: it takes away the last excuse, that blacks
can't get anywhere in the US.
>>As for the American Indians, who lost everything as well, I suggest a

Each immigrant group (and Indians are immigrants just like the rest of us)
reacts differently to the stresses of being ghettoized and marginalized. The
Irish rioted and fought for a place. The Indians reacted by declaring war
and slaughtering settlers until they realized they were beaten. You don't
see Indian race riots because the great majority of Indians don't live in
cities, because their numbers are too small (1% of the population), and
because the Indian response to stress has been to endure, not to riot as
blacks do.

THEY ARE COMMITTING THE CRIMES.

Yes, they are. But why does this small segment of the population have such
an overwhelming tendency toward crime?

Nope. If they wanted to be treated like every other citizen they wouldn't
want special treatment like quotas and set asides. They want special
treatment because of their perceived past victimhood.

Rodney King got the snot beat out of him because he resisted arrest
and because he tried to attack the cops. It had nothing to do with the
fact that he's black. I was a lily white teenage delinquent in the 1970s
and we all knew one basic reality about law enforcement--if you get
busted and you resist arrest, the police will see to it that you
"accidentally" fall down a flight of stairs once they get the handcuffs
on you.
When you watch the video of the entire incident most of it showed King
resisting arrest--and worse--charging the officers trying to attack them.
THAT is why he got the shit beat out of him. IIRC two of the cops at
the scene were themselves black. An independent study found that
the cops were perfectly justified in using force on him except for the last
six seconds. Of course the alarmist media mostly only played those
final six seconds so that it appeared that King was an innocent victim.
That is what we mean when we talk about the liberal media.
Many blacks watched the video and got angry because it fit their
predetermined view that whites are cruel to blacks. Instead it should
have reinforced the reality that people who resist arrest get punished
for it.

That's no fucking excuse for celebrating the unpunished murder of
two innocent human beings.

As Michael said they're disproportionally criminal because they commit
a disproportional amount of crimes.
Again I cite Larry Elder. He convincingly makes the point that most of
blacks' problems can be traced directly to the fact that nearly 80% of
black children are born to single mothers. Boys without strong father
figures are far more likely to get in trouble. And without fathers they tend
to be poorer. Obviously poor people get in more trouble than middle and
upper class citizens. What does this mean? Blacks cause their own
problems. Their problems aren't whitey's fault and pretending that they
are is delusional and self destructive.
A lily-white Congress passed those regulations. And blacks have been the
ones wanting quotas and set-asides done away with.

Quite true. The cops were only doing their jobs, which is why they were
initially exonerated, which led to the riots. Had he been white nobody would
have said a word.

Precisely. The black world view is different from the white world view. That
will eventually change, but it was a long time building and is embedded
pretty deep in the black psyche.

I couldn't agree more. Blame Judge Ito for losing control of his courtroom

Exactly. But why?

The same proportion as in Iceland. Iceland is not a hotbed of crime.
Anything but. And WHY are black girls so eager to get knocked up when they
know the father won't be around and they'll be living in misery? One
generation of mandatory teen birth control would end the cycle, but people
are too timid to suggest it.

Blaming whitey has been the traditional excuse because for nearly a century
it WAS the reason blacks couldn't get ahead. It's so ingrained in black
culture that even today young black kids feel that way, even those who have
never faced discrimination. That's why an Obama presidency is so important:
it may break up that mental logjam that says you can't get anywhere in a
white society. And as I mentioned, black women have made the transition
beautifully. There are significantly more black women in college than black
men, and a recent study showed that black women earn more than white women
in the marketplace.

We have an immense problem with black males that it's not politically
correct to talk about. Until a discussion starts, nothing is going to
change.
