President Barack Obama received a high-level briefing only three
days before Christmas about possible holiday-period terrorist
threats against the US, Newsweek has learned. The briefing was
centered on a written report, produced by US intelligence
agencies, entitled "Key Homeland Threats", a senior US official
said.
The senior Administration official, who asked for anonymity when
discussing sensitive information, said that nowhere in this
document was there any mention of Yemen, whose Al-Qaeda affiliate
is now believed to have been behind the unsuccessful Christmas Day
attempt by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab to bring down a transatlantic
airliner with a bomb hidden in his underpants. However, the
official declined to disclose any other information about the
substance of the briefing, including what kind of specific
warnings, if any, the President was given about possibly holiday
attacks and whether Yemen came up during oral discussions.

And ABC is reporting that the CIA "may have sat on"
crucial intelligence regarding wots-his-name too long.

A Yemeni, Hani Abdo Shaalan, who was released from Guantánamo
in 2007, was killed in an airstrike on December 17, the Yemeni
Government reported last week. The deputy head of al-Qaeda in the
country is Said Ali al-Shihri, 36, who was released in 2007. Ibrahim
Suleiman al-Rubaish, who was released in 2006, is a prominent
ideologue featured on Yemeni al-Qaeda websites.

530 detainees in Guantánamo were suspected or known to have
returned to terrorist activity since their release. They included the
commander of the Taleban in Helmand province, Mullah Zakir,
whom the British Chief of the Defence Staff, Sir Jock Stirrup,
called “a key and seemingly effective tactical leader”. Among
others who returned to terrorism was Abdullah Saleh al-Ajmi,
a Kuwaiti who killed six Iraqis in Mosul in 2008.

Here, it's well above freezing, and there is no snow. Since it's usually
below freezing right now, and we usually have about three feet of snow on
the ground, Drudge Report isn't mentioning us. Yesterday it was 54, and
I went shopping in T-shirt and short pants.
I lived in Ontario, and thanks to the internet, often listen to the local
outlet of the CBC Radio One. Yesterday, it was minus twenty --
Fahrenheit -- with blowing and drifting snow.
I can't say I miss that very much.
