Seattle Radical Women is working on a campaign to save the state's
Basic Health Plan, all while it is being held up nationally as a great
public option example for other states to follow. (Listen to the NPR
story on this here:
http://www.publicbroadcasting.net/kplu/news.newsmain/article/0/1/1575960/KPLU.Local.News/Can.State%92s.Basic.Health.Be.National.)
The NPR story doesn't mention it but the state's just cut $238 million
from the program, forcing tens of thousands to go off it.
We're collecting signatures on a petition to the Governor and
Legislature calling for them to increase funding to the program, not
cut it. The petition calls for the state to tax corporate profits and
the wealthy. We have over 1600 on paper and just started collecting
them online as well here: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/defend-the-washington-state-basic-health-plan
Can you help by signing the petition? National attention to this
issue is good, especially given the uncritical report from NPS and
others.
