The change in definition could potentially slash public funding for birth
control, contraceptives, and family planning. It could make birth
control difficult or impossible to acquire for many. Is some states,
certain birth control methods could become illegal.
While there is a good change, but no guarantee, that the next
administration would reverse this rule change if it goes into effect,
that still leaves several months where birth control would be difficult
or impossible for many to come by. If the rule change is put in place it
could be seen as a precedent that could cause problems for birth control
accessibility for decades to come.
MoveOn.org has set up a petition to attempt to dissuade Health & Human
Services Secretary Mike Leavitt from allowing the rule change to go into
force.

If the petition does not stop the Health & Human Services Secretary from
making this rule change, it should motivate Congress (and the next
President) to step in and reverse the rule as quickly as possible.
The world is over populated as it is, and the United States already leads
the "Western"/"developed" world in teen pregnancies. We do not need to
make things worse by putting up road blocks to birth control.
Please sign the petition, and call or write You Senators and
Representative.
Thank You.
