Arizmendi bakery set to open in San Rafael
San Francisco Business Times
by J.K. Dineen
The San Francisco-based Arizmendi bakery has signed a lease in downtown
San Rafael and will open a location there in late 2009.
Arizmendi, a worker-owned cooperative, has taken 2,700 square feet on
the corner of 4th and Court streets, according to Retail West Principal
Matt Holmes, who represented Arizmendi.
The Cheese Board, a worker-owned cooperative bakery that opened in 1967
in Berkeleys Gourmet Ghetto, inspired Arizmendi shops in Oakland,
Emeryville, San Francisco and now San Rafael.
Arizmendi should help cement the emerging culture of diverse and
interesting food in downtown San Rafael, said Holmes. Arizmendi will
be yet another feather in the cap of the strong redevelopment efforts in
downtown San Rafael.
Arizmendi serves artisan breads, pastries and gourmet pizza.
