Hi everyone. I recently started receiving SSDI payments and was told that
since my birthday was on the 28th I would receive my check on the 3rd
Wednesday of every month. Well, in August I did receive it exactly at that
time. Yesterday, August 31st, I received another check plus 3 checks for my
3 children. Did they make a mistake or has something changed that I don't
know about?

Are you sure they said 3rd Wednesday and not 3rd of the month? If the due
date falls on a holiday they send the check (or direct deposit it) on the
last working day before it is due. The third of Sept. falls on a Sunday this
year, so I just got an e-mail that my check (due on the 3rd day of the
month) was in the bank.

I'm pretty sure that's what they said, the 3rd Wednesday because of my
birthday being the 28th. And I had just gotten a check on the 3rd Wednesday
of August which is why I thought it strange to be getting another one
yesterday (not that I'm complaining). I haven't done the direct deposit
because I'm trying to read alot of posts on here about getting a separate
account from my regular checking so for now the checks are mailed to me. I
received my backpay check already for the kids, but haven't gotten mine yet
and I was approved in February of this year. I guess I need to just call
them and find out what is going on. I just hate talking on the phone (and
waiting of course).

Thanks tapwater!

I understand your apphrehension. You don't wish to walk into a trap or trip
up on a minute issue. This was once a valid concern of mine back in the mid
90's when I first started collecting.
Yet it is my understanding that SSDI is on the third of every month.
Retirement SS on the first. With the exception of that date falling on a day
when commerce is limited. Then it's on the last week day prior.
Is it possible that there are additions to the SSDI (like maybe SSI?) that
are calculated from a differnt payment schedule? I seem to remember that SSI
uses a sliding pay day scale like that based upon birthdate.

SSI = 3rd of each month.

SSDI:

Claims prior to 1997: 3rd of each month.

For claims since 1997:

Birthday is 1st-10th: 1st Wednesday of each month
Birthday is 11th-20th: 2nd Wednesday of each month
Birthday is 21st-31st: 3rd Wednesday of each month

No, thats not true. I first applied Dec 2004. I was approved in Apr.
2005. I was receiving my check on the second Wednesday of the month for
about the first 6 months, got a letter from them that said they were
moving it to the 3rd of each month, which they did.

Please site where you got this information. I believe it is incorrect as my
birthday is the 30th and all my checks are received on the FOURTH Wednesday
of each month.

WRONG, WRONG, WRONG! From www.ssa.gov:

When are benefit checks paid?

Question
When are Social Security benefit checks paid by direct deposit or
check?

Answer
Social Security benefits are paid each month, but for the previous
month. For example the check received in June is for the month of May.

When you applied for benefits, the Social Security representative told
you when you can expect to receive your benefit payment. Your benefit award
notice also has this information. Generally, the day in the month on which
you receive your benefit depends on the birth date of the person on whose
record you receive benefits. For example, if you receive benefits as a
retired or disabled worker, your benefit will be determined by your birth
date. If you receive benefits as a spouse, your benefit payment date will be
determined by your spouse's birth date.

Here's how it works:

Birth date on Benefits paid on
1st - 10th Second Wednesday
11th - 20th Third Wednesday
21st - 31st Fourth Wednesday

For example, your date of birth is June 16. Your monthly retirement
check will be paid on the third Wednesday of every month.

If you're going to offer information, be sure it's correct!

SSI = 1st of the month
SSDI portion of SSI = 3rd of the month

SSDI alone with the birthday thing described = 3rd Wednesday of the month (WTF!)

SSDI backpayments = accelerated to the last day of last month for some reason.
Count your blessings, they may not always be there for you.

The 3rd falls on a weekend and holiday weekend at that.

Check delivery dates that fall on a weekend usually arrive the
business day (Friday) before, especially if you have direct deposit.

If in the postal mail you could see a delay.

That's got nothing to do with it.

It's already been explained here:

SSI = 3rd of each month.

SSDI:

Claims prior to 1997: 3rd of each month.

For claims since 1997:

Birthday is 1st-10th: 2nd Wednesday of each month
Birthday is 11th-20th: 3rd Wednesday of each month
Birthday is 21st-31st: 4th Wednesday of each month

Well, I got 4 letters in the mail today to confuse me even more. One letter
for me, the other 3 letters for my dependent children. I have a stepchild
living with me, but for some reason don't get payments for him (he's 7). It
explained why I would be getting my checks at the beginning of the month,
but they're wrong. I denied SSI. I told the lady on the phone that I did not
want it, please just send me my backpay check as soon as you can because
I've been waiting THREE YEARS and need that money. Applying for SSI would
only cause more delays and I don't need Medicaid to pay for outstanding
doctor visits because I went to a charity hospital where all of my care was
free. I have a supplemental insurance for free (well paid by Medicare) to
where I only pay $5.00 for a primary doctor, $10.00 for a specialist, all
hospitalizations are 100% covered, prescriptions are $5.00 for generic, in
other words, I just don't need Medicaid. I told the lady this on the phone,
that I was denying the application, she said that was fine and she would go
ahead and record my statement.

So now I get a letter saying that the date of payment is being moved from
the 4th Wednesday of the month (I'm sorry I did get that date mixed up
earlier, it's the 4th Wednesday) to the beginning of the month since I am
eligible for SSI.

I am even more confused than ever so I am just going to call their office.
I'm thinking it might have something to do with the fact that I have 3
dependents that they will send the payments sooner. Thank you to everyone
who helped me. I'm new to getting my payments so I had some questions.
