June 23, 2009 (San Diego)-- An estimated 200 to 300 people turned out
to protest state budget cuts in San Diego, outside Governor Arnold
Schwarzeneggers office downtown. Some carried coffins and a skeleton
signgrim symbols of the consequences they believe will result from
severe cuts to health and social services programs.
Ann Menasche, a lawyer with San Diego Disability Action Coalition,
said the cuts will be devastating to disabled individuals. People
already dont have enough to live on, she said the predicted, With
cuts to SSI and Medicare, we are going to see more homeless people and
more hunger.ďż˝
For those on Medi-Cal, she added, All mental healthcare will be cut.
A lot of people with in-home services will no longer qualify.ďż˝ In
addition, coverage for dental, optometry, psychological and
psychiatric care are also being cut, Menasche said.
Asked how she would propose to balance the budget without such severe
cuts, Menasche called on the Governor and Legislature to require
wealthy Californians to pay their fair share and to close corporate
loopholes.
Martin Eder of Activist San Diego faulted an economy thats basically
run by developers and big business interests that have created a
collapseThe effects are being born by the poorest in society. People
at the bottom are suffocating.ďż˝
The cuts will also impact public education. Teacher Judy Ki of Poway
carried a sign that chided the Governor: Real men dont steal from
school children.ďż˝
Carlos Pelayo, organizer with United Domestic Workers (UDW) Union,
said over 20,000 in-home caregivers in San Diego County could be
impacted. They are devoted to keeping their clients out of long-term
care facilities,ďż˝ he said.
It costs 1/6 as much to care for someone at home than to put them in
a facilityand its a healthy environment that allows people to heal
better.ďż˝
California allows family members to be paid as caregivers. Statewide,
over 60% of those receiving in-home care are cared for by family or
friends. Most are homebound. They are quitting their jobs to provide
care for loved ones, Pelayo said, adding that the impact of cuts will
have a severe impact.
In-home care workers who have been paid $11.50 an hour, plus benefits,
now face having wages sliced to $9.50 an hour starting July 1stand
the Governor has proposed slashing wages to minimum wage, $8.00 an
hour. Those on the program must first qualify for Medicare and SSI, he
said, adding that locally the program covers many in East County
including places as far east as Borrego Springs. (For more information
on the program, including resources for caregivers and families, visit
www.udwa.org.)
If the public knew about this, they would be screaming, he said of
the proposed cuts for caregivers of the sick, dying and disabled. If
you cut this, you jeopardize public safetyand you hurt the whole
family.ďż˝
Today in Sacramento, Democrats unveiled a new plan to spare severe
cuts in services to the poor and sick, as well as keep state parks
open.
Democrats proposed a $23.2 billion package that includes a combination
of spending cuts, accounting shifts, fee increases and new taxes on
tobacco products and companies that drill for oil. The plan would also
cut $5.5 billion from public education but return billions of dollars
to schools in the future.
Senate Majority Leader Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, said Democrats
rejected the governor's proposals to eliminate health insurance for
nearly 1 million low-income children, the state's welfare-to-work
program and college grants, the Sacramento Bee reported.
"The governor's price, as laid out in his series of May revises, is
too high," Steinberg said Tuesday in a briefing with reporters. "We're
not eliminating the safety net for the most vulnerable Californians.
We're not doing it. It's anathema to everything I believe in."
Instead, Democrats proposed a 9.9 percent tax on oil production in the
state, increasing the cigarette tax by $1.50 per pack and imposing an
increase of $15 in the vehicle license fee, which was raised earlier
this year. The vehicle fee would allow the state to keep open 220
state parks Schwarzenegger proposed closing.
Schwarzenegger has proposed a fee on homeowner's insurance policies,
averaging $48 a year, to fund fire and emergency response services,
but he opposes the Democrats' taxes on oil companies and tobacco.
A budget impasse looms, as Republicans staunchly refuse to support any
fee or tax increases, insisting that the budget be balanced entirely
with cuts that would most severely impact the poor. If a budget is not
passed by July 1, severe cuts will be imposed and the state risks
running out of money.

You don't think Schwarzenegger contributed to the problems?

"When the fate of so many rests in the hands of so few, can the failure
to be accountable ever be forgiven?" - Stephen Hawking
This is from an article about how utility and real estate companies
that made campaign contributions to Schwarzenegger are benefiting from
tax cuts and loopholes.
"His fundamental lack of interest in anyone less fortunate was perhaps
best evidenced by remarks from his finance director, Mike Genest, in a
remarkable conference call with political reporters just after
Schwarzenegger revealed his latest proposals.
Conceding the plan would solve the budget crunch mostly by depriving
the neediest Californians of food, shelter, education and medical
care, Genest added this: "We have to make the numbers work. We can't
worry about the trauma. Would it lead to deaths? I certainly worry
about it. People will have problems, but we don't have any
alternatives.
Schwarzenegger wasn't so blunt when he spoke to a joint session of the
Legislature. He said he can "see the children whose teachers will be
laid off ... the Alzheimer's patients losing some of their in-home
support services."
Yet he stuck to the "no alternatives" theme."
On the local TV news they reported on people holding up signs protesting the
possible closing of some California state parks and an increase in fees to
help balance the state budget. I wondered if anyone in that group gave any
thought to the current plight of the poor and disabled, and if so why didn't
even one of them step up to say they would rather have the parks closed
and/or the fees increased rather than see a someone go without housing, food
or medicine ?
The article by Thomas D. Elias (a syndicated writer) isn't what IMHO could
be called balanced. And his statement that "This column and others have
detailed how merely changing the rules under which some real estate is not
reassessed to current market values upon changing hands would provide
between $3 billion and $12 billion in new state money each year....." is
not very realistic.
I can't see why a blue collar worker or low wage white collar worker for
example, would buy a home today for $250k and pay property taxes at a
previously (inflated) appraised value of $500k. Maybe Mr. Elias is the
exception?

The problem is three sided, People want various services but they
don't want to pay for them and peoples priorities are misplaced. In
addition, everyone thinks they are themselves somehow immune from
everything, even if they poop their pants every morning driving to
work thinking about layoffs. They don't want to pay for FICA or
Medicare because they think they will never need it. They don't want
to pay for state programs because somehow they think they will never
need them. I myself didn't care about FICA, as an example, because I
usually hit the limit around April and the pay increase was nice but
not for one minute in my life did I think I would become ill. I am
dismayed when I see people protesting what amounts to small tax
increases. One day, you are fine. The next day, you have a disabling
disease or are in a horrible accident. Do these people actually think
people want to be in the hospital or whatever. The reporter mentioned
is a good example.
My brother is a good example. His firm has been having layoffs,
something 6 months ago seemed impossible for them. There have been
two, which he made the cut, but emails me or calls me the day they are
going down in a state of pure panic. Then when they do the usual "feel
good" message afterwards, he immediately becomes cocky again. Plus his
closest brother (me) became ill and he never think he ever will.
People want all these services but they themselves don't want to pay
for them. Shit happens in life. 99% of people die from disease or
accident. It's rare people die of "old age".
State Parks over human lives. How moronic can you be?
Speaking of people not dying of old age, what's the heck with
celebrity deaths in the last week? First it was Farah Faucet, then
Michael Jackson, and now Willy Mays.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/TV/06/28/mays.death/
Though Farah Faucet had cancer and i'm not surprised Michael Jackson
would go the way of Elvis.
That would be Bily Mays. A loud mouth white guy versus a humnle back
huy
Willie mays may have past away also but im not sure bout that but I just
heard it was Billie mays past away.

Making such a big deal about the death of a pedophile should be a crime
IMHO.
I thinks it's sad when a TV commercial spokesman's death makes national news
with all that is happening in the world that goes unreported.
Not only that 'MJ' is a pedophile and he turned to "islam"
> That would be Bily Mays. A loud mouth white guy versus a humnle back

And add to that Gale Storm (from the 50s TV)
Gina! Now that he's dead you can't mention that he was Wacko Jacko!
Sleeping with teenie bopper boys, moving to Bahrain to sheikh his booty in
the sand, lifelong Jehovahs Witness membership until going Arab, plastic
surgery addiction, and DRUGS!!!! The boy is freaking BLACK ELVIS!!!!!!
Bubbles and the rest are praying for him to get grace and mercy....
Has everyone forgotten that this began with Ed McMahon? Ed, Farrah,
Michael, Billy; so much for "they come in threes..."

Life is but a passage. How you justify it, is how easy one is when the clock
runs out. I'm feeling pretty confident as I watch what has been foretold
come to pass.
------------------------------------------------
Know this, MJ was NEVER CONVICTED of molestation. His message to the world
has been one of LOVE. A love that he yearned for and was denied as a child.
It wasn't untill he became so popular that folks started to look for ways to
ursurp his riches.
It is well documented about how harsh ol Joe was on his sons.
The guy was unothradox, to say the least, but Love was his message.
As one who has known troubles and tourmoil and lived to be a witness, who
preaches the Gospel and believes in the power of redemption, I for one am
not willing to condem that which I do not have a complete understanding of.
That being said, feely has often accused me of being a drunkard and a
habbitual drug abuser. I profess to being a partier, does that mean that I
have given up on the blessed hope? Does a liar and his constant false claims
of reality dictate what folks are willing to accept of believe?
If so, then get in line, it's sheep shearing time. Folks need good wool
coats to protect theem from the harsh cold of reality. :-)

Ignore those who claim to know the end of days, as no one knows excepting
the lord God almighty himself.
Unlike Stu I do have pity on the abusers of man, alcohol and illegal drugs,
as commanded by Jesus. In the case of Stu it's all three. He is quick to
forgive and profess his love of a child molester but not someone honest that
points out his transgressions and prays for his salvation.
Mike
Well said Mike.
feely, you are a troll and a habbitual liar. You know this and so does the
rest of the world. What comes out of your mouth or from your finger tips is
considered the same as those bundles of junk mail that show up
everyday.....................of no consequence.
Dear lying drunk and drug abuser:
It doesn't matter if I post from my computer or my son's computer "My"
e-mail address remains the same and anyone that needs to know it already
does or simply needs to ask. Just remember it is you that supports and
proclaims his love for a known pedophile. It is you that seems to be
infatuated with the very idea of pedophilia as you bring it into the
conversation frequently. It makes me wonder if you are on your state's sex
offender list?
You keep claiming there is no hate coming from you yet you keep posting
gross lies and keep calling me foul names. Anyone can feel the hate coming
from you by simply reading your post. Those lies of yours condemn you to an
eternity in hell by your own standards. If you truly believe the rapture is
as close as you keep posting you had better repent post haste. It's time to
stop the sinning and confess your sins while you can.
Mike
Here's a bit of wisdom for you, from the words of Chris Rea's "God's great
bananna skin"
Just keep your head down dont listen what your ego will say
cos when that man in the sky points his finger at you
Dont you ever think no-ones better than you
Climb back into your bottle Stu ee boy ?
It was you that posted:
"Know this, MJ was NEVER CONVICTED of molestation. His message to the world
has been one of LOVE. A love that he yearned for and was denied as a child."
Anyone who was paying attention knows MJ paid off the families of the boys
he molested, to keep them out of court. That says a lot more about his guilt
than any jury could. Just as your lies condemn you to eternity in Hades as
per your own reasoning.
Tick tock the redemption clock is ticking Stu ee boy and you are in dire
need of salvation for all the false witnessing you've been doing.
Mike
You may notice that I sign most of my post with my "real name" so you can
just admit to that lie now and ask forgiveness. Come knocking on my door and
see how afraid of a cowardly drug abusing alcoholic like you I am, as you
hit the sidewalk crapping your pants.
You use your first name, true. That's because folks wont let you slip off
into obscurity and false monikers. How about using your real email address?
Don't say it's because you don't want to have to deal with junk and spam
flooding your account, because I've been using the same email for years and
all that mess gets filtered out. I might recieve a hundred emails a day but
I only see a few. The ones that I know are real and valid.
You like to talk of preoccupation, .... why is it that you picked up on the
one time I mentioned the after effects of a seizure and now can't get the
image of a person defficating himself out of your mind? Because you are
constantly thinking of that orrifice, that's why.
Face it you sick, twisted, lying, dysfunctional misanthrope, you are a waste
of cells. When the roll is called up yonder, I'll be there casting my crowns
and listening to your wailing and teeth gnashing. You have allowed yourself
to be so beguiled by the great deciever that I fear your sickness will carry
you to your grave.
At least you've been leaving the newbies alone and keeping your ignorant
braggidicio to a minimum. This I can say I've done for you. Your behavior in
this NG is my concern irregardless of where I believe your soul will end up.
You can lie all day long, but your falsehoods and slanders will not alter
the path that you are on. Only make you feel better about the image you
THINK that you present.
Ask them to put marshmellows and hot dogs in the casket when they plant you.
You may get a better seat (closer to the fire) if you bring party favors. :)
You have posted about crapping your pants on many occasions. If you weren't
so drunk so often and so long you might remember but you have destroyed to
many of your remaining brain cells since you got the beating you deserved.
Hint: You're not a warrior. You're an alcoholic drug abuser with illusions
of grandeur.
As per your own criteria it is you that will be burning in eternal damnation
in the lake of fire.
Tell you what Stu-ee-boy. If you off yourself I'll post my complete real
address and phone number. Just have someone post your obituary and or a
verifiable news article as proof. Hell with enough notice I'll show up and
piss on your grave.

I must say I am impressed by your Christian character.
Leave it to a group of bully flame trolls to use the fact someone actually
tried to help someone as an attack on someone they perceive as in support of
their target. I do not remember the incident but It's possible I suggested
someone spending their money on booze and drugs or the group as a whole help
someone in need.
Gina has complained about several posters lately and only one I see is part
of Stu's imported gang of flame trolling jerks. But the gang has to go on
the attack any time they see anything that could cost them perceived ground
in their bully flame war. They claim I terrorize them but it is they who
have taken over this group and are keeping those who may need help from
posting out of fear they will be attacked.
Remember how the group was before Stu started cross posting to all of my
groups and drug in his group of newsgroup bullies here to attack me? Well
I'm not going anywhere. How the rest of the group handles these bullies will
control the outcome. Ask yourselves how many people have any of these
bullies helped here? How many of you remember when Tim ( Tim & Linda ) was
under a similar attack by a newsgroup bully flame troll. Stu is the worse
type of bully as he can't act alone. He has to have the help of other
bullies and doesn't care who he hurts in the process. I, like the rest of
you, despite what Stu and his group of thugs says, am disabled. None of
Stu's thugs are disabled and none of them care one little bit if anyone who
is disabled gets helpful information here. Stu has been posting a lot lately
but nothing of help to anyone.
Mike Gibson
