Yes, truly. When I read that article I must admit that
I was a bit miffed that Modemac would bend over so willingly
and start spewing the "its just a joke" line. Perhaps
Ms. Van Sack plied him with liquor, I don't know, but I'm
currently drafting an angry letter to the editor of the
Ledger to rebut that article. Hopefully they will print it.
**************************
Dear Editor,
On reading your article of August 22, 2005, entitled
"In Bob We Trust...", I was quite taken aback by the
claim that the Church of the SubGenius is "really a
spoof on cults and false deities." I don't know who
this Modemac person is or where he gets his information
from, but if I could I would challenge him to prove
that the Church of the SubGenius is just a spoof,
or a prank!
Yes, it is true that the Church of the SubGenius does
have a few "social outcasts" among it's membership,
as well as some science fiction fans, but so does
Christianity. In fact, the Church of the SubGenius
actively targets social outcasts, as does Christianity.
Perhaps it is because we believe that the world will
come to an end on July 5, 1998, and that the faithful
shall be lifted up into flying saucers where their
every want shall be sated by magical aliens makes the
Church of the SubGenius seem like a joke, but what
does Christianity claim about the ultimate fate of
the world?
No, I don't know what Modemac's motive is, but to be
charitable I would just say that he is misinformed.
The Church of the SubGenius is as real as any other
religion. It's core beliefs are in part comparable to
other religions including Christianity, Islamism, and
Buddism, with the most notable exception being the part
about true SubGenii having a genetic makeup that shares
some similarities with the Yeti, or Sasquach.
As an Ordained Minister of the Church of the SubGenius
I hope this sets the record straight for the readership.
Sincerely,
Kahkuah-Kumu Artemia Salina
