Tater, I realize if something's on Taterpedia, it must be true. I'm
not complaining that I must be a purple-martian sock, or at least
damn near. But here's a little more information.
Like purple and/or marty, I also post via eternal-september.org.
The organization and message id's in the purple-martian posts are
eternal-september defaults. The "noiseless patient spider"
organization header is inserted by the server, not by the user's
news client.
Both headers can be customized (as can be seen in my sample header
below), but most eternal-september) users don't bother. The
eternal-september link between purple and marty is interesting, but
far from conclusive.
The first 10 or so characters of X-Auth-Sende seem to be consistent
for a particular account. In my case this is "U2FsdGVkX1" for all
posts I have checked.
There is a post from mars earlier in this thread with the header
"X-Auth-Sender: U2FsdGVkX18dhnYgrDMJgO0wBvsU8MmatyUx8twy5P4="
A corresponding purple header is
"X-Auth-Sender: U2FsdGVkX19GYO5vTdMXjznGjqIlLKrfvHSRYTxFYBY="
The 10 character correspondence is there, which supports the sock
conclusion, thus preserving the infallibility of Taterpedia (whew!),
at least if my general observation is correct.
That also means that I am probably not a purple martian sock (double
whew!), at least if my own message headers can be trusted!

Nothing stops him from changing it himself, of course. But I
couldn't find any recent (where "recent" means as far back as
August, then I got tired of looking) posts with the noiseless
patient spider header except those from eternal-september.org.
Maybe you were hallucinating? Or maybe you have an example? If the
latter, maybe you could post a message id or something.
