I dunno if the show will start airing this Saturday or next, but it's
WXDU 87.7 FM in Durham, NC (Duke University station). Showtime is 6 am
to 7 am -- our only morning timeslot that I know of. I'll be
interested to see how HOUR OF SLACK competes with Saturday Morning
Cartoons in Durham. The station also streams at
http://wxdu.org
If they are like most of the stations they'll be a week or two behind
SubSITE's HoS page in terms of episode playdates. I started them with
#1143 (a "Bob" intro special) whereas #1148 is the latest one
finished.

We now have two stations broadcasting (and streaming) the show in NC.
Total stations broadcasting the show remains at 25 because one of our
old ones closed down.

My recent spamming re: CD subscriptions paid off, in that we got two
new civilian subscribers too. You too can join the fun and horror:

What does Research Triangle Park mean? Not the dictionary definition,
the Un-Mind-Conditioned Ego-Free definition.

Reasearch Park: A famous geek reservation, home of many high-tech
companies, which they inevitably call "campuses." Usually a huge swath
of land is cleared, and huge tax breaks are given to companies to build
there and make the town seem a lot smrater than it would be otherwise.

Research Triangle Park is the biggest/most notorious park in the South.

I used to work for a small NASA/Defense-oriented contractwhore located
in the second-largest research park here in Huns-ville. In the mid 1990s
the company withered up and died due to the looming threat of world
peace. If they had just hung on a few more years they could have been a
part of the 21st Century Forever War Windfall, currently bathing our
local economy in YOUR money.

Space made Huntsville famous, but war makes Huntsville affluent.

I guess I had the wrong image of Huntsville in my head. Maybe because
of a state prison?

That's the sad truth these days. People say Huntsville, they think
Texas, not Alabama. Von Braun, he's dead just like Bear Bryant. Almost
all our nazi scientists are gone now. Not neo-Nazis neither, coz we be
OLD SCHOOL. "Ve aim for ze stars, but sometimes ve hit London."

There are a few non-commerical stations in this Huntsville, but aside
from a couple of NPR clones all FM frequencies below 92 belong to the Lord.

Mobile, Auburn, and Tuscaloosa are your best bets for expanding the
radio ministry outreach to this slack-starved land.

NASA/Defense-oriented crack whore
down there, somewhere in there . . .

RTP is located right on the edge of Raleigh and Durham
For years it has also had the moniker IBM-ville as when it first
gained noteriety it was 85% IBM
The tech bubble burst, and the companies in RTP are more likely Bio-
tech than true IT , but the area still exists, and desperately needs
slack.

In the early '90s, I actually went on a business trip to IBM down there, to
a mysterias BUILDING 057, which was filled with new models of huge
mainframes. We had to simulate how fast a newar model of mainframe would
be, should we purchase one, while processing our existing workload. Signed
non-disclosure agreemants and all that spy shit.

Two good restaurants around there. One, the Angus Barn, near the Raleigh
Airport. The second, The Garden of Eatin', simply for the NAME.

Ahh, them were the last glory days of computars, when nobody you knew had
ANY idea what you were doing and a trip to IBM facilities was like getting
beamed up into the Motharship from Close Encountars.

Heh, on one such trip, aftar the day's work, we sat in the Premier Lounge of
some Marriott Hotel, drinking complimentary cocktails, while we watched the
winning of the first Iraq war on CNN, which lasted well into open bar hour.
Them was the dayz.
