it gives you a six-face cube for a desktop, which you can rotate, but I
never got it to do anything consistent for me.
Still, I could browse the web, download from ALT.BINARIES.SLACK, play MP3
and MOV files, logon, logoff, and empty the trash successfully. Which is
about all the average SubG ever needs to do besides pee and whank and drop
stool, all of which are better done offline anyhow.
So what am I complaining about, the price was right, all FREE FREE FREE.
And compared to Windows, which has been very good to me, Linux is worth
EVERYTHING I PAID FOR IT. With Windows, at least I could POST my own
binaries, play MIDI files, and use my webcam. Well, by the time my PRIME
system here becomes the old shoe, in that glorious future perhaps UBUNTU
will be sufficiently well developed to satisfy me completely, and I can slap
a Linux on it before I turn it over to the glue factory.

PS, in my experience, once you get a SERVER running, I've never seen anybody
actually UPDATE one. Too risky. And being as far from the bleeding edge as
possible is always an advantage. That's a different world entirely. But
the desktop should have all the eye and ear candy OOB or what's the point.
This is where most touted Linux distros get it wrong.
Still, I futz around with a new Windows box for about two days before I have
it trained to find my G spot. My experience with UBUNTU (webcam excepted)
isn't much different.
Also, some asshole recommended to me to RTFM on Beryl.
HEH...fooled me! There IS no written manual. Just someone's BLOG and some
partly filled in Wiki articles.
Those apps WITH "help" files...you open them up and read some chapter and
find "TODO: <fill in this part>" all over the place. Some help.
Another negative for Linux. I smoke and am right handed.
Long ago, under Windoze, I switched myself over to left handed mouse
operation to leave the right hand free for, ummm, entertainment purposes.
It just so happens that I can arrange my day without ever touching the
keyboard, or more importantly, touch the keyboard and the mouse at the same
time. And super conveniently, all the handy keyboard shortcuts (ctrl C for
copy, ctrl V for paste) can be activated with the LEFT HAND, and alternating
with mouse movements, not simultaneous with them.
That's why I couldn't roll the Beryl cube desktop...the command requires TWO
HANDS SIMULTANEOUSLY (ctrl alt mousedrag). Unacceptable for me if I'm
smoking or eating. Yeah, sure, I could prolly change the keying trigger,
but then there is the problem of the NO DOCUMENTATION. I only find this out
by exploring every input panel of every option of every plugin that comes
with Beryl.
Perhaps I should shut up and fix all these things quietly, and then go off
and create iDRMRSRnix 1.0. That would give me quite a bit of street cred to
put out my OWN distro. Run the PC all day with JUST ONE HAND.
