16 degrees F in suburban Atlanta last night.

Not even a blazing fire in the fireplace keeps the downstairs warm for long.

The only insulation in this fucking house is in the attic.

I guess this cold snap proves that global warming is a hoax, huh?

You can blow up the first floor while you're upstairs and go to Hell.

I can't even imagine it getting colder than 30 degrees down in Georgia!

Maybe turn the thermostat down to 45 or something? Compromise.

60 is as low as it'll go. Maybe 55. Sometimes if it's set too low the
furnace shuts off but leaves cold air blowing so I have to go down to
the basement and flip the furnace switch a few times.
I don't like the basement. There are clowns down there. And spiders.

You can keep the clowns at bay with ring-dings. The spiders, I'm not so
sure. But you shouldn't have to worry about the pipes in the cellar, I
discovered through my own independent investigation. The fact that it's
buried in the earth tends to keep the temperature in the 50s or 40s,
that's in Massachusetts, anyway. If you put space heaters in the
bathrooms and kitchen, and keep them on low, that should keep those pipes
from freezing.

Only that global warming is not the correct name - it's climate
disruption - the rules we've come to know are going rogue, and it's
our fault. Overall, the global weather is warming, but that means
weather streams go in different directions from before. I'll bet you a
hundred million dollars that the world is getting warmer, and will
continue for several years - probably our lifetimes. When the shit
hits the tipping point, money won't be worth anything.

HA! We had 29 last night n Delaware!

This reminds me of Feb 96. We went to see my brother in Detroit, was
10 degrees in Philly. When we landed in Detroit, it was 55 and
everyone was wearing shorts.

I don't think there will be any dramatic tipping point, just a long slow sad
slide into a new equilibrium that may not be very hospitable for civilized
human life. Like there ever was such a thing.

That's a bad relay. The contacts are beginning to stick. Eventually
they'll get stuck forever. Relays are cheap and easy to replace. If I had
more info on the furnace (make and model) I could probably talk you
through replacing it yourself. I bought my most recent furnace relay
online. 5 minutes to replace it and $20 (at most) for the relay.

I just had another thought about what the problem could be. It could be
that the clowns are fucking with the furnace in order to get you to go
down into the basement. That'll cost you more.

Converted local temperature to your ridiculous "Fahrenheit" scale. -15
degrees. My snot freeze as I breathe in short, shuddering gasps. The
cold *burns*. Everything gets brittle and breaks. I wish I was in
Spain. Save me St. Nag, take me away from all this, by means of
thermonuclear devices if necessary.

Not when the clowns are protected by faeries. Feeling cold??? Good
luck with that.

They will if they aren't provided with fresh meat. That's why the clowns
are trying to lure her into the basement.

I remember the time a friend had basement clowns. They were tough to get
rid of. The fuckers would listen for footsteps in the living room,
kitchen, and bedroom, and then jab their butcher's knives up through the
floorboards with all their might, stabbing his family members in the
bottoms of their feet. The wounds weren't very deep, luckily, because the
floorboards would stop the blades from poking more than about a half
an inch, but his daughter still needed some stitches. He said you could
hear them snickering amongst themselves down there.

The way he got rid of them was to first get a bunch of Vise Grip pliers,
and whenever a clown would jab his knife up through the floorboards he'd
have to clamp a pair of the pliers onto the tip of the blade so the clown
couldn't pull it back (clowns are typically very fast at this). Once he
figured he'd gotten all of their knives, he had to go into the basement
and shoot them.

Have you ever smelled a dead clown before? They reek like rotten
hamburger and cat piss!

PS: No doubt Pantiara's landlord tried to get rid of her clowns by
releasing spiders in her basement. That's not a good or sure-fire way to
get rid of them. Lots of people underestimate the adaptability of
basement clowns.

Weird that you mention that, because once when I was home alone with a
migraine, I heard clown music coming out of my boiler room. No lie.
That was some headache.

I have also heard pirates in there.

Maybe it's more of a brain tumor than a migraine.

I found an easier way to get rid of my basement clowns. First I
rented a tiny little car and then drove it down into the basement and
left a door open. The clowns naturally were compelled to pile into
the car then I slammed the doors shut and jammed the locks. Kind of
like a roach hotel, very tidy.

The problem though is the garbage men won't pick up loaded clown cars,
so you have to take it to a clown recycling center, which costs a few
bucks. They then recycle the clown brains and make politician brains
out of them. They dismantle the clown clothes and make high school
math teacher clothes out of them. So there's very little waste.

You can also get something similar if you are having problems with
evil Santas. It's a fake fireplace with a trapdoor and no opening on
top. You just bait it with milk and cookies and when the evil Santa
puts his weight down in the trap, the trapdoor springs shut. The
walls of the fireplace are hinged, so you just pull the evil Santa out
in a replaceable bag. Strangely the garbage men -will- take these
without complaint, I guess because if the Santa isn't still struggling
they think it's just regular garbage. So it's a good idea to gaff the
Santa a few times before you put the bag out, to stun him.

Of course sometimes you will get PETA people coming around complaining
about this, they feel it's cruelty to Santas. But I've found you can
also use the fireplace trap on PETAs. Just bait it with fur, they
will rush in to do a protest march and SNAP you've got them.
