SOUR GRAPES, EH, STEINBERG?

Reeling from an embarrassing setback of international proportions, the
Israeli-Lobby is firing back at its opponents by claiming that they do
not really even exist. Elan Steinberg of the self-described "American
Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors and Their Descendants" had
demanded that Skinheads be banned from City Hall in Jackson,
Mississippi. The ultimatum received world-wide news-coverage, with
the Jewish Telegraphic Agency lambasting the appearance of Skinheads
in such a public-forum as "nothing short of monstrous." But, a funny
thing happened on the way to the synagogue. The Skinheads held their
ground, delivered their message and received extensive news-coverage,
in trouncing Steinberg. However, the Israeli-press, while trumpeting
Steinberg's initiative, failed to report Steinberg's defeat.

Rabbi Valerie Cohen of Congregation Beth Israel, who had joined
Steinberg, offered "sour-grapes" of her own, insisting that "I don't
like to give these people any credence," concluding that her critics
were "not going to hurt the Jewish community" and had "no real power
against us." How so, then, that Steinberg and Cohen and all their
vaunted minions could not deliver on booting the Skinheads out of City
Hall? After all, the "San Diego Jewish World" had glaringly
proclaimed the incident as "national and international news of Jewish
interest" and quoted Steinberg as "shocked and dismayed" that "hatred
could be given such a public platform." Putting it all in perspective
was Mark Briskman of the Jewish Anti-Defamation League, who told the
"Star-Telegram" that "our impression is that they don't exist in an
organized format."

Briskman's announcement came just days after the city of York,
Pennsylvania paid the final-installment of a nearly $100,000.00 court-
judgment to Skinheads, for implementing an ADL-authored ordinance
designed to run Skinheads out of town. Drafted by the ADL's
Philadelphia-branch, Briskman-cohorts had touted the measure, which
was struck down by the Third U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, as being
the "first in the nation" to ban Skinheads. Named "York Unity," the
law banned Skinheads from meeting at York City Hall, but Skinheads,
under leadership of Rob Dorgan, met anyhow, after obtaining an
injunction against the city. Ironically, while Briskman was claiming
that Skinheads were "non-existent," the ADL-website was blasting
Skinheads, on its top-twenty hate-list, for being too "aggressive," as
part of The Nationalist Movement.

As evidence that Skinheads had "gone out of business," Briskman
declared that their website "hasn't been updated since 2002 and
messages sent to the e-mail address were not returned." The website,
however, was not the Skinhead Website, which had been rebuked over the
"Doctor Phil Show" for its recruiting efforts and slammed by anti-
Skinhead-activist Morris Dees for its influence. When Tel-Aviv-based
Alex Lati had pirated their images, Skinheads even shut him down.
Yet, according to Briskman, Skinheads had sounded their "last hurrah"
in 1990, when a Skinhead was prosecuted for "hate." However, he
overlooked that, two years later, Skinheads won their historic victory
in the United States Supreme Court, striking down bans, identical to
the one sought by Steinberg, on holding their meetings in public-
buildings.

Briskman sidestepped that the "hate" label had lost its glitter after
the ADL paid a $9-million judgment for defaming a Denver couple it had
accused of "hate." The ADL, which had referred to Skinheads as
"haters," then, shifted to terming Skinheads "extremists." The
Israeli Lobby appeared unable to grasp the impact of its city-hall
debacle. The German-language "Fascism-is-a-Crime" website linked to
the report that Richard Barrett had spoken in the council-chamber, but
failed to mention what had been said. "Fox News," on the other hand,
carried Barrett's remarks that "the Black Caucus, Israeli Lobby,
Homosexual Network and Atheist Club had all tried to padlock the door
to City Hall to prevent this appearance. They failed, because that key
is held not by the minorities and special interests, but by the
American people."

Barrett, who has amassed a string of coast-to-coast victories as
attorney for Skinheads, concluded that holding the venue, against
minorities and aliens, "bodes well for the day when the American
people will take back not only City Hall, but this entire city."
Meanwhile, Rob Chalfen announced that the Israeli-Lobby, as another
"sour-grapes" retaliation, would be nailing down Boston City Hall, for
a ceremony featuring "Klezmer" and " Shirim" music. Chalfen did not
mention, however, that Skinheads had, also, defeated Boston, by
striking down its ADL-backed laws, which had tried to ban Skinheads.
Since its defeat at York, the Israeli-Lobby has abandoned its "model-
ordinance" project to override the First Amendment. So odious was the
maneuver that York's insurance company even balked at defending the
city.

Notions of their premature demise bemused Skinheads. "Who is really
spreading hatred and holding grudges?" asked Rodger Curry, who said
that he was tired of being "branded" for being a Skinhead.
Christopher Dustman emphasized that the setback of the Israel-Lobby
had made him all the more "aware." "I practice what I preach," he
said, "and am more firmly convinced than ever to stand by my blood and
people. It is a great honor to be a Nationalist and a Skinhead."
Andrew Powers rebuked Steinberg, saying that "'Skinhead' and
'criminal' are not words to be seen next to each other. I respect
Skinheads for standing up for what is in our hearts and showing no
mercy to our foes." Powers contradicted Briskman by observing that
"our youth is our future and Skinheads are making our strongest gains
among our youth."
