Hey Chuckie-- you forgot to misspell Sarah's name like you usually do!
Orthography aside, Sarah Hughes would be considered Jewish by Jewish law,
regardless of her father's surname, because her mother is Jewish. Whether
or not she (or anyone in her family) practices the religion is another
matter. In an ABC fluff piece done on her at Nationals a few years ago (and
that's US Nationals, because she's from New York), she was shown decorating
the family's Christmas tree.

Sarah's dad John is from Canada and her mother is an American. Sarah was born
in July of 1986. This is not the same person or did someone else named Sarah
Hughes win a gold medal in SLC in another event?

I have traced some of my family back, and do find
out I do share a common ancestor with Sarah Hughes,
going back to 19th century Australia. I am a Hughes
from my maternal grandmother, and was able to
trace the family back as far as my great great
grandfather, and I an ASSURE you theis
NO Jewish ancestry ANYWHERE in the
Hughes line, going back as far as my great great
grandfather, who was born in Queensland in 1822.
We are Scottiah and Irish, NO JEWISH!! So
anyone who says that Sarah, or anyone else
in the Hughes family line is Jewish better check
what they are smoking.
