Last couple of nights I put the 13 TOG duvet on my bed, and as I
hunkered down I remembered my mother's favourite saying as she tucked us
in bed:
"As snug as a bug in a rug"...

As long as your not a bed bug.
My mom tucked us into to bed saying, " sweet dreams, good night, don't
let the bed bugs bite". Yawn, Bette

At my house it was, "Good night, sleep tight; don't let the bed bugs bite."
Joy
"Good night, sleep tight, don't let the bugs bite" was another.
Snore...
I had a fleece blanket over the summer duvet until this week, that was
adequate until two nights ago when it dropped to -6C.

You forget that I do everything for myself, which a Real Man couldn't
manage. ;-)
I bought my brushed cotton sheets from Dunelm Mill in Stockport, and I
think these are the ones, really cosy:

You can search for duvet covers, I use cotton ones.
Store finder:

This store is my first-stop call for quality household stuff at a decent
price.
Ah! how nice.
When we moved here we upgraded all our synthetic filled duvets, No 1 son
has a terrible feather allergy, to Duck down, and they are so warm and
cosy in winter. He and me have twin bendy beds (joined together) that we
have never regretting buying but we do have separate duvets. I just put
a 'throw' over the whole lot.
I confess to tucking myself into a fleecy blanket when I am sitting
doing the crossword in the evening. HID doesn't seem to feel the cold at
all and declines to share. So I don't help him with his sudoku.
I took the plunge today and dragged out an old set of scales and weighed
myself. I really did think I must have put on pounds considering the
cold weather menus and the junk I have eaten over Christmas, but to my
surprise I actually lost weight. So tonight I am going to finish that
box of Thornton's chocolate gingers and have a double dollop of Cornish
Cream on the Apple Strudel I made today. I put the extra handfuls of
sultanas out for the birds.
Bobbie:-)
No fair! I had my physical examination yesterday and gained two
pounds--could be worse, although I need to go in the opposite
direction.
I also recently bought a nice new down comforter and a really
gorgeous cover for it.
Hey, let me take a poll here, since I am debating about something.
I currently have a queen-sized bed. There are two twin-sized beds
in my daughter's room that she doesn't want in her new bedroom. I
am thinking the bedroom on the main floor will be a guest bedroom.
What kind of bed/beds would be best in that room? (I am also
debating about whether to have my queen or a new king in my
private lair.)

Speaking of hard to find... I was looking for a nice wool blanket
(or, barring that, a cotton one) and could only find microfiber
things now. I tried an Irish store (nothing) and a Scottish store
(yes, but most were not plain).

Yeah. At least one of my parents said that. I guess it makes
some sense--unlike "as happy as a clam".

I dunno, never heard of it.
My wife worked part time in Horrocks's confectioners, if that helps.
:)
we got that at my Aunts, I guess my Mom had it confused..or chose her
own
way. ;>) whatever, it worked. Bette

We have this one:

I think the pair of twin beds would allow more flexibility, so I'd keep them
for the guest room. As for king or queen, that's up to you. I find that a
queen size is plenty big enough for me and my two cats. In fact, when my
husband was alive, the queen was big enough for both of us, plus whatever
cats decided to join us - and he was a big man. However, some people use
more of the bed than others. If you like to sprawl, or move around a lot,
you may want a king size. I usually stay on one side of the bed, close to
my dresser, so I can put my book on it and reach my water and various other
items I might want.
Joy
Good question. ;-)
I just went to sleep quickly and slept soundly.
Joy
I'd (wanking) tell (wanking) you (wanking) but (wanking) you (wanking) might
(wanking) be (wanking) embarrassed.
LOL I'd ask you to repeat that, only it might just offend the prudes
among us.
Bobbie. Who never should have asked <gg>
As near as I can tell, mine is about 4 1/2' wide by 6 1/2' long.
Joy
Heh! The plot thickened, since my daughter decided she was too
attached to her twin beds to give them up. I still want to know
though.... Thanks!

Charlie's posts are often sadistic. This one is just humorous (and
accurate). Toci
Real men let their wives do the multi-tasking. Toci
I multi-task very well, but that pillow sounds wonderful! That is so much
better that having the TV on when dropping off. I need to shop for one of
those.
Let me know if the subliminal learning works. I have read a good deal about
it.
Hope you and Mrs. Lanky are doing well in the New Year.

How interesting. I think they have merit, these subliminal tapes and
such. I used one with earphones many years ago when I was giving up
smoking and I have to say, it helped me. The only thing I found was
waking up at night with a pain in my ear after having fallen asleep with
earphones in place.
Lanky if there is ever any thing you need help with and prefer not to
bother Mrs L, why not ask here. We might be able to offer advice. Just a
thought, although I feel sure that you are more than capable of dealing
with anything that might crop up.
Bobbie
I've never heard of such a pillow. I gather the speaker is not bulky!

Perhaps Sacha never managed to find her own clitoris?
The dimensions are shown in inches and are approximate.
U.S. Mattress Sizes and Dimensions
Twin Size 38" Wide x 75" Long
Twin Extra Long 38" Wide x 80" Long
Full Size 53" Wide x 75" Long
Full Extra Long 53" Wide x 80" Long
Queen Size 60" Wide x 80" Long
King Size / Eastern King 76" Wide x 80" Long
Cal-King / Western King 72" Wide x 84" Long
If you are listening to music at the same time as you are sleeping, I'm not
sure that you have much to learn about multitasking.

I have to confess to going around after HID and doing some things again.
He doesn't know, so don't let on will you?
Bobbie:-)
He does know, and he is smarter than you think he is. 8-)
Pardon? Did you speak?
LOL! Good idea.
Joy
Mine is about the size described as Full Extra Long. However, it was sold
as queen size, and fitted queen size sheets fit it perfectly.
Joy
What, you had boxing gloves? We'da killed for boxing gloves. When we
fought we hadda use stones and sharp sticks - and wade thru 8' snowdrifts to
use 'em.
Oh, Lanky! No such thing as having to post to any set degree (as
you well know)!

Wonderful apparatus and it will save so much energy.
I was rather hoping you *were* going to try the subliminal course, as I have
often thought about it myself. If to get to it in the near future, I'll let
you know. :-)
Take good care--both of you.
Norma
Last I heard of him he was a very eminent surgeon in South Africa,
relayed to me by a S/A radio amateur operator I contacted many years
later. I felt stupid asking if he knew my cousin, but he asked his
name, and next time he contacted me he reported having easily found him.
Africa is a small country. ;-)
ROTFL!
And some wives don't need to be told...

I'd never seen one of them until yesterday when my daughter pointed them out
to me in a shop. They were labelled MP3 pillows and when I asked my
daughter what they were for she said that you must put your MP3 player on
the pillow. Boy, am I going to give here heaps about your revelation. I
now know something about a piece of technology that she doesn't.

Lanky, I appreciate your presence and contribution regardless of whether you
choose to engage in mass postings or to largely lurk with an occasion
comment.
I never had to tie our bitch up, she would lie on the grass at the side
of the house and wait for kids to come along and pet her.
She didn't have a happy relationship with the postman or leaflet
distributors...
