The movie was a bit long and the story wasn't all that unique (e.g.,
another Africa is f*cked up picture). Leo mugged for the camera enough
to get an Oscar nod. Djimon acted like a docile african and Jennifer
COnnely was decent as a nosy judgmental reporter.
Yeah the amputations were a shame and the child soldiers were a pity but
I've pretty much seen this story before except it had bruce willis in it
and there were no diamonds just some church people that needed rescuing.
The pace was slow at times and was a bit too preachy. It was just
entertaining enough for me to not walk out of the theater. I had high
expectations for this film (being that Leo was starring in it) but the
film never quite met my expectations.
The moral of this movie: "Put De Beers out of business. Don't buy blood
diamonds because there is real human suffering behind it." Ok I get it.
But next time be more entertaining.
i rate this film as 2.5 stars out of 4.0 stars.
FWIW, Will Smith gave a more powerful performance in "The Pursuit of
Happyness", IMSOHO.
Yes I notice movies becoming increasing preachy.
These uneducated actors take themselves very seriously anymore.
And here's the irony, Hollywood CREATED the diamond business.
Of course a diamonds is simply compressed carbon.
It has valuable industrial uses but just how did it become this
standard of jewerly ?
Marilyn Monroe is given large credit for this social phenomenon.
Through Hollywood , De Beers consciously created the whole diamond
mystic.
It's got to be one of the most successful advertisement campaigns in
history.
Hollywood's tireless leftwing crusade never ends.
More reason to hang yourself.
Diamonds were collected for their value long before Marilyn Monroe or
Hollywood existed.

Solidarity amongst the anonyshits--what a concept.
and it only cost 100 million to make this latest Holywood moralization
tale. Excesses enough to go around.
