Just saw a "documentary" about the mendez brothers on tv. I never saw it to
the end, are the brothers still in jail or what?

About a week there was a mini-series about the brothers where the cause of
killings was fear of more parental abuse. It really put the parents in a bad
light, so to speak. While the documentary focused on the greed aspect and
therefore put the brothers in a very bad light.

How many of you think that the Menedez brothers killed their parents out of
greed or fear of parental abuse? Are they still in jail?

Still in jail? Do the words "life without the possibility of parole" mean
anything to you? As for their future, let's hope they enjoy all the dates
they'll have with 300 lb bodybuilders with a passion for "sweet white ass"

They're currently being sold for cigarettes in some California prison.

Hey, how about showing a little compassion. After all, they are orphans.

Has there been any irefutable evidence that the dad (who's name escapes
me at the moment, the one who was the manager of Menundo) molested some
of the kids in that band, including Ricky Martin?

I have read in interviews that Ricky has done is that he *vehemently*
denies it and in fact got along with the guy (Paul??)

I saw the other show putting the Menendez brothers in a bad light. According
to the prosecuter of the second trial the brothers ambushed the parents
while they were watching TV with shotguns. The mother was shot again as she
was trying to crawl across the floor. They then went out to their car and
got more ammo and continued. They are where they belong.

Nope. I have friends who worked for RCA at the time Jose Menendez was
president of the label (not the manager of Menudo) and they said it was
a bunch of bull - just tabloid trash made up to sell mags. Notice that
this story came out only after RM hit the big time.

I am not a fan of the menendez boys, but, on general principal say the
following: I don't care HOW well one thinks one knew a "co-worker" (though
presidents are rarely that to the majority of employees) and/or friend, NO
one, I repeat, *NO* one knows what people do when the wagons are circled,
family-style...

Erik married a gal whose husband had just died, and she opened up a flower shop
in the town where the prison is in California. The co-owner of the shop is the
wife of one of the Billionaire Boys Club members who were mentioned in the
first trial quite a lot. Don't know if it's Hunt...

While I agree that Lyle and Erik are where they belong, I don't think
that they deserve to spend the rest of their lives there. Twenty years
on a manslaughter conviction would seem more appropriate. At least for
Erik Menendez.
Although the Ricky Martin rumour probably is hogwash, there's a lot of
circumstancial evidence indicating that Jose Menendez did molest his
sons. Although sexual abuse is no defense or excuse for commtting a
homicide, it nonetheless helps explain how Erik and Lyle could have
reached the conclusion that their lives were in danger. Even though we
can later tell, as the brothers acknowledge, that the danger wasn't
actual, it doesn't change that much. For imperfect self-defense to
apply, it's not the reality of the danger that's at issue, but rather
the sincerety of the brothers' belief in it.
As for the reload, it was one shot fired by Lyle Menendez, and should
not be attributed to Erik Menendez.
IMO, had the judge not been incredibly biased in his rulings throughout
the case, I doubt that the brothers would have been convicted of first-
degree murder.

***I watched the entire first trial (the one where the defense was allowed to
introduce the so-called abuse excuse) and the evidence seemed very, very weak
to me--some photos of children bathing which looked to have been taken by a
child, a jar of Vaseline by Erik's bed and a few somewhat vague comments spoken
to a relative. OTOH, the evidence that greed was a motive was incredibly
strong--they broke the bank in the days following the crime (cars, Rolexes and
even a restaurant) and were calling lawyers to ask about the wills by the time
rigor mortis had set in. And the murder of Mom doesn't make much sense in the
abuse scenario, but makes lots and lots of sense in the greed scenario.

just before xmas, i attended a luncheon with someone who knew jose at rca
records. he mentioned that no matter where they were on business, jose would
call home at 8:30 p.m. eastern time (the family was based in ny at the time)
and speak with his sons and find out how their day was.

Again, this could be seen as much a controlling thing as a loving thing,
and NO ONE OUTSIDE A FAMILY KNOWS WHAT GOES ON WITHIN!!! I'm not saying
that I believe JM *was* abusive to his sons. I'm saying I know how "easy"
it is to fool the outside world...and hearing people say things like the
above just gives me the creeps. It's straight out of a bad horror movie.

While I agree that Lyle and Erik are not where they belong, I disagree
with everything else you have to say on the matter. Erik and Lyle belong
in hell where they can be betrayed and shot gunned into eternity as they
did to their parents. Along for the ride into hades, please also include
Leslie Abrahamson who fabricated the story of Jose's abuse of his sons
to (gasp) get her clients off! I could tell that the whole story was
preposterous when part of Erik's abuse was portrayed as "the object
game" in which Jose purportedly inserted a KNIFE BLADE into his son's
anus. The defense could not back it up with proof however and was
especially chagrined when a doctor said he found NO SCARRING inside
Erik's rectum. So kindly explain how Erik could have been abused in such
a way and no scars left behind? Please, Miss Abrahamson played the pervy
dad card in order to save her client's necks and since the trial took
place in Los Angeles (later home of the reprehensible OJ verdict) it
worked. At least they are locked up for life.

Didn't Leslie Abramson get disbarred from Law in California for altering
testimony of a psychiarist?
Last I heard of her, she was in Las Vegas defending the man who killed a little
girl in the mens room of a casino.
No wonder Nevada hates California.

The kitchen knife was used by Jose during what Erik called "rough sex."
He alleges that Jose would scrape him and draw blood from his thighs.
Jose did that because Erik was weak and it was part of "pain training."
Erik has a scar on his lower thigh which he showed to the jurors.
As for your claim that Jose inserted the knife blade into Erik's anus,
I simply don't recall the allegation of such an incident.
Dr. Kerry English testified that physical evidence of molestation is
found in less than five percent of cases. He also testified that Erik
had an injury to the back of his throat that could be consistent with
oral sex.
Mary Dominguez had helped the Menendez family when they moved into the
Beverly Hills mansion. She testified that she saw some boxes full of
male pornographic magazines and videos in the master bedroom and
downstairs library.
Diane Vander Molen testified that when Lyle was eight years old, he
told her that his father had been touching his genitials.
Andy Cano testified that when Erik was 12 years old, he told Andy that
his father was "massaging his dick."
There's also the pictures of the boys in perfect focus, both missing
heads, perfectly posed, one of them in a bathtub with totally clear
water. I will concede though, considering the nature of the other
pictures in the envelope, that it is possible that it was a child who
took these pictures, and not Jose Menendez.
Although never admitted into the evidence, the so-called "seventeen
page letter" by Lyle Menendez, which was seized from Erik's jail cell
in the summer of 1990, contains intriguing statements:

"We alone know the truth - we alone know the secrets of our families
(sic) past. I do not look forward to broadcasting them around the
country. I pray that it never has to happen. If it were not for you I
doubt I would even try for manslaughter. I would rather try and escape
or die. I struggle with my belief that men take responsibility for
their actions, pleading abuse is not taking responsibility...."

At the same time that this letter was seized from Erik's cell, "escape
plans" were seized from Lyle's cell. I believe that Lyle's alleged
plan to escape related to his desire to avoid the shame of revealing
the painful secret of incest.
I think it's reasonable to infer that Lyle and Erik were molested, but
I respect the right for you to disagree.

True, true, true! I, um, "knew" a musician who was *such* a devoted
father, *loved* his family *so* much, blah blah blah, that he called
every night he was on the road, sometimes at every break, even if he was
coming home during the day. And he'd call his wife at work 6 or 7 times
a day just to check in. Of course, he really just wanted to make sure
that his wife understood *perfectly* that he was watching over her.
Saying that it's out of a bad horror movie isn't a good description of
what it was like for her because only really *good* horror movies can
actually make one experience that feeling of dread....
