LIZ Taylor is looking to unload some of her valuable art collection. The aging
grande dame is in talks with Sotheby's to sell off a number of important
paintings, including a Picasso and a Van Gogh, which could fetch many millions
at auction. "It's not yet been decided which of the pieces will be sold, but it
will probably be this fall," a source told msnbc.com's Jeannette Walls.
Taylor's rep denied any knowledge of the sale, noting that the star is planning
to exhibit some of her jewelry collection at Christie's next month. Sotheby's
had no comment.

I do know she was looking at a home in Old Palm Springs, very expensive,

Baby Strange, I hope this *isn't* the case....I remember reading an
interview with Liz where she extolls the pride she has in her art and
jewelry collections. But what was the last film she made? She doesn't
seem to be getting regular work and her activities with AMFAR seemed to
have slowed down.

million dollars.
If true, she does not need to work. It also stated that her
perfume ventures made much more money than all her movies
put together.
I do think she has been surpassed by everyone's favorite O

Maybe she wants to start distributing part of her fortune to
her children and grandchildren.

If she is going to sell the art and jewelery collection she should first
loan it all to AMFAR for a travelling museum show to raise money and promote
the goods. I'd pay $20 to see her stuff.

Picassos, Utrillos and Modiglianis (and a Warhol OF her signed BY him TO
her). If she had financial problems, ONE of the pieces would take care of
her and the rest of her lineage for life.
And then there's the jewlery...

Liz's father was an art dealer. For a time he had a small shop at The
Beverly Hills Hotel in the early 1950's. Her husband, Mike Todd was the one
who got her started collecting. He favored impressionist paintings. Back in
the fifties one could still buy a Monet or a Renoir for less than $100,000.
Today any of those paintings might be worth $15- to $20 Million. Todd also
encouraged Eddie Fisher to buy some impressionist paintings. Fisher wrote in
his first autobiography that he thought that Mike Todd had an impressive
collection (about 8 originals) until he and Todd visited Joan Perry Cohn's
house in Beverly Hills. She was the very rich widow of Columbia Pictures
president, Harry Cohn and she had a collection of dozens of major
impressionist paintings. Hope her two sons got to keep a few after she
passed away.

I have heard this as well. I remember reading recently (in the last year)
a list of the top ten selling perfumes and Elizabeth Taylor's White Diamonds
was in the top ten. If true, I don't imagine she NEEDS to sell a few paintings
to keep her from eating canned cat food.
Maybe she's doing it for kicks.
If she really needed money, she could still work. I'm sure the current
Hollywood powers that be could cast her in any number of "crazy grandma" roles.
She could do numerous guest shots on current sit coms. Will and Grace featuring
La Liz as an eccentric homeless woman (remember the Lucy TV movie in the
80's?). She could be an old friend of "Everybody Loves Raymond";s mom. She
could be anyone's grandmother on "Friends". Is there and old witch character in
the Harry Potter series? (I have not read them).
Surely, Mike Myers could create a role for her in the next Austin Powers
movie.
I don't see Elizabeth Taylor being forced to sell art to survive.
Besides, I imagine she knows where several bones are buried in Hollywood.
She could always write a "You'll Never Eat Lunch In This Town Again" type
autobiography if she was desparate.
I mean, Mamie Van Dorren isn't on welfare yet. I don't think Elizabeth
Taylor is anywhere near that point.

Maybe this is part of her estate planning. It could be that she's
selling things that her children don't want or can't afford to keep.
Imagine for a moment what it would cost to insure her art work. If
you were her kids, would you want to pay a million dollars per year in
insurance premiums so that you could keep her Picasso, or would you
rather have cold, hard cash?
