She sings it in a breathy, sexy voice.
She sounds as If she might be 25 to 30 years old.

It is light rock but with jazz time changes.

She keeps repeating the line:
"I like it when we're cruising together"

I only heard it once late at night. Does anyone know
who the singer is? I can't get the song out of my mind.

THANKS

That's not a woman (or at least I've never heard a woman sing it).
That's Smokey Robinson.

Here are the complete lyrics from

SMOKEY ROBINSON SOLO: Cruisin'
submitted by Alexis Siemon

Baby let's cruise, away from here
Don't be confused, the way is clear
And if you want it you got it forever
This is not a one night stand, baby, yeah so

Let the music take your mind, ooh
Just release and you will find
You're gonna fly away
Glad you're goin' my way
I love it when we're cruisin' together
The music is played for love,
Cruisin' is made for love
I love it when we're cruisin' together

Baby tonight belongs to us
Everything's right, do what you must
And inch by inch we get closer and closer
To every little part of each other ooh baby, yeah So

Let the music take your mind
Just release and you will find
You're gonna fly away
Glad you're going my way
I love it when we're cruisin' together
The music is played for love,
Cruisin' is made for love
I love it when we're cruisin' together

Cruise with me baby
Cruise

Baby let's cruise
Let's flow, let's glide
Ooooh let's open up, and go inside
And if you want it you got it forever
I can just stay there inside you
And love you baby,

Let the music, take your mind
Just release and you will find
You're gonna fly (away)
Yeah, I'm glad you're going my way
I love it, when we're cruisin together
The music is played for love,
Cruisin' is made for (love)
I love it, I love it, I love it
You're gonna fly away
Yeah, glad you're going my way
I love it when we're cruisin' together
(The music is played for love)
It's love music
(Cruisin' is made for love)
...& fade

True, it's Smokey Robinson's song -- but the Holly Cole Trio had a version of
it, on their album "Girl Talk" from 1994. That might have been what you heard
late one night :>.

Ohhhhh....I LOVE that song. I could get in the mood to do Bill Clinton if that
song was playing.

Ok, not really. But I do love that song.

Thanks for the lyrics. That's the tune
and I've heard his version. Holly Cole
changed it so much I didn't realize it.

I think the "she" you are seeking is Smokey Robinson, and
the song is Cruisin'

Here's a website with the lyrics.

It is a terrific song and a terrific singer; however, it's not a "she". It's a
Smokey Robinson song called (I think) "Cruisin'", and it dates back to the
mid-to-late 1970s.
