Sometimes I think paintings and drawings of spanking are more exciting than
the various posed photographs of the act. The artist can capture the
expressions of genuine shock, horror, dismay which somehow the model girls
often can not.

There are , of course, loads of spanking blogs out now with their associated
links and I have enjoyed looking at Invidia's spanking art on the Collar
Purple Blog

http://www.collarpurple.com/art/index.htm and at Spanking Art
http://otkart.blogspot.com/ which picks artwork from old spanking novels.

I must admit to some concern over the increase in Blogs as I am never sure
who has had permission to use what...but Invidias work is her own and its
good.

Your post on spanking art reminded me of this passage in the book
'Frank And I' supposedly written by Anonymous. I have heard from a
very reliable source that the true author of this book is none other
than Martha Stewart. She has a lot of time on her hands these days, but
you have to decide for yourself who actually wrote the book.

Anyway, for those not familiar with the book 'Frank And I' (Blue Moon
Books 1987) Charles has just witnessed the governess, Miss Martin,
discipline a young woman named Dora. He compliments Miss Martin on her
technique.

Here I quote from the book:

"You did the whole thing splendidly," I said. "The way you
spanked one side of her bottom, and then the other, amused me very
much; and you applied the rod in a most skilful way. I had no idea that
a whipping could be inflicted in such an artistic style."

She laughed and appeared to be highly delighted at my compliments,
saying: "There is an art both in spanking and birching, as there is
in everything else. I've had plenty of practice, and I flatter myself
that I can whip a bottom with a fair amount of skill."

So there you have it, Alex. Art is in the eye, and even sometimes
across the bottom of the beholder.

There probably are copies of that book with a publication date of 1987,
but that's just the date of the Blue Moon Books reprint.

I'm sure it's considerably older than that.

I think you're prob'ly correct, Tony.

On the back of the book it tells us that 'Frank And I' was first
published in England in 1902...

So, Martha Stewart didn't write it after all. Maybe it was Beatrix
Potter, or maybe, just maybe, it was our own Alex Birch!

We'll never know for sure,

Might not really be as old as that 1902 publication date would have us
believe either.

A lot of "Victorian" erotica was written in the 1930's through the
1950's.

No you're thinking of Martha's 'Trailer trash whuppin'' based on her in jail
interviews with fellow inmates. Frank and I is entertaining though if you
suspend your credibility vis a vis the author's eyesight!!

Ah indeed a young lady's bottom can provide the canvas for a rich tapestry!!
Thanks for those enlightening thoughts Rap!

I believe Olympia Press in Paris published it in the 1920s and even that was a
handed down manuscript. One rumour is it was actually written by the English
poet Algernon Swinburne sometime around 1890.

Wouldnt it be great to discover that Beatrix Potter was a secret spanko and in
fact there were 'alternative' copies of Winnie the Pooh and friends?

Agreed. I love good spanking art. I enjoy George H. Churchward's art,
tho at first it took me a while to get used to the rather harsh faces.
There's a series of pics from him that I used to have and long since
lost, about a girl who brought a bad report card home, that remains my
favorite.

There's also a gal named Patty whose sketches I really enjoy. And, of
course, the gal who used to do drawings for Kane magazine ... someone I
think you know, Alex, whose name eludes me.

I think you mean Paula Meadows, Red, and it used to be Janus and Februs she
illustrated for. I dont think she has drawn for Kane though has certainly

I kinda figured that's who she was talking about. The original
illustrations for Kane weren't nearly as good as Paula's work for Janus
and Februs.

Well, I had a 50/50 shot, knowing it was either Kane or Janus. I
remembered her being a featured model in Kane, so I went with that.

Before our big move, I tossed all of my Kane and Janus mags. Would
that I had *that* decision to make all over again, but what did I know
8 yrs ago. Certainly nothing of Ebay ...

Hate to be a wet blanket but Beatrix Potter wrote the "Peter Rabbit"
series. Winnie the Pooh was the creation of A.A. Milne.

But Beatrix Potter may have been a spanko. One of her drawings shows o
character being beaten with a switch. Apparently it is not much re-produced
these days but does exist.

Seeing as how the topic of this thread is Spanking Art, have any of you

It's not all spanking, a bit of B&D and S&M is also in the mix.

Well, there's no question that makes me very aware of his work. But Mr.
Tarsis illustrates for other companies as well, and I'm certainly not
being paid to promote him. Just thought it was relevant.

If you go to the beginning of this thread, I mentioned Paula Meadows
first, and we don't have a professional relationship with her.

Interesting picture. Doesn't really mean she was 'into' spanking though,
does it? I mean it's dated 1904. At that date spanking, even caning, was
a fairly commonplace punishment. Just, from her point of view, a naughty
young bunny getting what he was asking for.

That's my opinion, anyway,
