This started out as a survey of magazines which had featured either
bondage or body painting. Here is the latter section, with many additions
and comments added by myself. The movie, video, music video, poster, and
book sections were my additions.

Magazines:
Life, November 9, 1964. Cover and interior shot of Shirley Eaton in her
"Goldfinger" paint job.
Playboy, March 1968. "Brush-On Fashions" - Cover and pictorial of several
body painting samples.
Playboy, January 1971. "Stalking the Wild Veruschka" - Top fashion model
Veruschka painted as a snake, cheetah, pile of rocks etc.
Gallery, February 1973. "Erotic Industrial Design - What?" Cover and
pictorial article of silver women.
Playboy, January 1974. (20th Anniversary Issue) "Painted Lady" - Veruschka

Playboy, February 1978. "Close Encounters of the Fourth Kind" - Silver
painted model.
Penthouse, January 1980. "The Art of Loving" - Two ladies cover each other
in paint.
Playboy, May 1980. "Out of Miss World" - Silvana Suarez, Argentinian
Miss World 1978, painted in various surreal designs in the spirit
of a Rene Magritte painting.
Chic, May 1980. Gold-painted buttocks on cover.
Playboy, September 1981. "You Tarzan, Me Bo" - Bo Derek, painted white by
the natives for the film "Tarzan".
Playboy, April 1983. "Going Native" - Pamela Bellwood, onetime star
of Dynasty, painted by the Masai in their tribal paint.
Hustler May (1983?). "Programmed for Passion." Shaved woman painted silver.
Rolling Stone, May 23, 1985. One of the pictures accompanying an article
on the underground club scene had a picture of a topless woman
painted in a zebra pattern.
Playboy, November 1985. The "Women of Mensa" pictorial featured two shots of
a woman made up as a cat.
Playboy, July 1986. Article on the Pirelli Calendar. Two calendars ('84 and
'86) featured painting.
American Photographer, March 1987. pp 61-67 feature shots of Veruschka
painted to blend into the background. An entire book of such photos
of her by photographer Holger Truelzsch was published that year.
Playboy, September 1987. The 007 pictorial of Maryam D'Abo featured a two
page picture of her painted gold in honor of "Goldfinger".
Playboy, January 1988. "Maxine Legroom." Not _exactly_ body-painting, but
interesting nonetheless. Heavy body make-up, wigs (upper _and_
lower), and contacts.
Photo (French), March 1988. Article on _Trans-Figurations_, with several
pages of photos.
Peterson's Photographic, March 1988. Cover shot and two interior shots of
silver women. Article explaining lighting setup for such "metal"
shots.
Penthouse, October 1988. "Finger Painting" - "Linda" and "Ginger," painted
red, blue and gold, enjoy one another's company.
Playboy, May 1989. The picture of Kirsten Allen from the Glaviano book
(see below) is reprinted in the "Grapevine" section.
Fame, May 1990. Goldie Hawn painted gold. Nude, but nothing is shown
(small photo reprinted in the 4/30 issue of Time).
Playboy, May 1990. Feature on French photographer Patrick Magaud. One
series of shots is of a woman painted as a bronze statue walking
through Paris streets.
Knave, vol.22 #6 (British). Cover and centerfold, painted white with flames.
Penthouse (French), September 1990. "Punk'Art." Reprint of Oct. '88 "Finger
Painting" layout in American edition. The layout was called a
"Penthouse Video," but I don't know if it was stills from a video or
not.
Penthouse, October 1990. "Pet Rocks" - Lesbian layout with two women painted
convincingly as rock formations (I think they're Janine Lindemulder
and Amy Lynn Baxter, but it's hard to tell).
Penthouse, March 1991. "Robo-Pet" - Janine Lindemulder, 3/4s painted silver.
Playboy (German), May 1991. Cigarrette ad featuring another "painted suit"
shot by Joanne Gair (artist of Demi Moore cover).
Amateur Photographer, November 16, 1991. Feature on the 1992 Pirelli
Calendar shoot, which featured women made up as animals (only their
torsos and faces were made up; they were wearing body stockings).
Femme Fatales, Summer 1992. Two shots of Linnea Quigley in her "Hollywood
Chainsaw Hookers" paint job.
Vanity Fair, August 1992. Demi Moore cover and pictorial.
Femme Fatales, Fall 1992. Inside cover has a shot of Rebecca Ferrati in a
leopard-pattern paint job.
Playboy, September 1992. The Sandra Behrnard pictorial features one shot of
her painted gold.
Spy, September 1992. Paint-by-numbers parody of Demi Moore cover.
Penthouse, December 1992. "Facing the Music." Woman with airbrushed piano
keyboard, painted gold, etc.
Playboy, January 1993. "The Year in Sex" feature features shots comparing
the Demi Moore Vanity Fair cover to a shot in their "Brush-on
Fashions" article in a 1968 issue. Also, shot of a French
performance-art group painted in day-glo colors.
Nugget, February 1993. Cover and pictorial "Catwoman" parody.
Femme Fatales, Spring 1993. In an article on the women of Babylon 5, one
is painted in a parody of the Demi Moore "suit" cover.
Gent, September 1993. Cover and pictorial of "Wondrous Woman" (model in
painted-on "Wonder Woman" costume).
Penthouse, September 1993. Women painted as statues, animals in background
of layout on Andrew Dice Clay.
Stern, 11 Nov. '93. "Kunst Hautnah." German artists use models as their art.
Penthouse, December 1993. "Searching for Bob Fischer." Janine Lindemulder
and Amy Lynn Baxter get painted by performance artist Bob Fischer.
Elle MacPherson 1993 calendar. The two December shots are nude shots of
her painted gold.
Interestingly, all of the "painted" layouts in Penthouse were done by
photographer Earl Miller (and most of them featured Janine
Lindemulder).
Also, many issues of Hustler, Genesis, and Gallery from the 80's feature
body painting photos in those small sections near the beginning of
the magazine (the name escapes me at the moment).
Parliament News published a magazine called "Carnal" that included body
painting and bondage, as well as other fetishes. Volume 1, #1
was in late 1985. Anybody know what happened to it after that?
Body Art (quarterly) has many issues that feature body painting. Individual
issues cost around $18 and are available in the U.S. at Tower
Records outlets (in bags, can't browse), as well as through:

I haven't personally seen any issues since #8 (summer '91), but

Miscellaneous:
The Royal Haverford Circus has an act called "Living Statues," featuring
two men and a woman in bronze paint.
Movies:
Casino Royale. Two women painted a la "Goldfinger" get involved in bar
brawl. Very quick shot.
Cassanova 4: The Conquest. One actress painted as a tiger in one scene.
Cherry 2000. Striped and polka-dotted women in bar scene.
Dance With Death. Catya Sassoon does a routine in a thong bottom and a gold
paint job. One shot in the opening credits is of a dancer with a
painted-on tuxedo; it's not in the actual film for some reason.
Driller (x-rated). Lesbian scene between two gold-painted women.
The Emerald Forest. Female lead painted gold from neck down by cult leader.
F (x-rated). Buxom woman with painted tuxedo top, other woman painted gold,
others covered with glitter-paint designs.
For Richer or Poorer. Lengthy lesbian scene where one woman is painted
gold.
Goldfinger. The Criterion edition laserdisk has several pages of production
stills and promotional posters featuring Shirley Eaton.
The Guardian. Jenny Seagrove covered in a tree-like design. Breasts and
crotch covered by prostheses.
Hardbodies 2. Topless models in opening sequence painted as statues.
Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers. In her "Virgin Dance of the Double Chainsaws"
routine, Linnea Quigley has a pair of twined snakes painted around
her body.
The Kiss. Joanna Pacula in stripes.
Lair of the White Worm. Amanda Donohoe in blue paint.
I Love N.Y. Fashion shoot at opening of movie has nude woman painted as a
statue. Shots of front and back.
The Midas Touch (x-rated). Several women get turned to gold.
Mondo Cane. One segment is on an artist who uses "human paint brushes" (ie.
models bathe in blue paint, then rub against a canvas).
Ms. Magnificent (x-rated). Two women in full-body paint jobs; one yellow,
one red.
Outland. Silver dancers in bar scenes.
Prospero's Books. The nymph characters have have various painted designs.
Rocky. The ring girls at the fight (who also escort in Apollo Creed) are
painted silver (no nudity).
Serpent of the Nile ('53, color). Julie Newmar painted gold (not nude).
Sex Wars (x-rated). Various green- and gold-painted alien women.
600 Fantasy Lane (x-rated). Women painted as horse, tiger, leopard.
Star Trek V. Three-breasted tigress dancer in the bar scene.
Sunset Heat. Penthouse Pet Julie Strain is topless, painted silver in one
scene.
Tarzan the Ape Man. Bo Derek painted white by natives.
Tattoo. Maud Adams covered in tattoos.
The Trip. Go-go dancers in 60's psychedelic paint jobs.
Vampire Circus. A woman painted as a snake (nude, except for a patch over
her crotch and a bald cap) does a dance number with her "trainer"/
partner. The design was swiped directly from a Veruschka photo.
Vengeance of the Zombies. Incredibly bad horror film with a woman painted
gold from the waist up (not nude).
A View to a Kill. A nude dancer at the end of the opening credits is painted
with flames in flourescent paint.
Where the Heart Is ('90). Uma Thurman and others are painted to blend in
with classic paintings. Body painting by Timna Woolard.
Video/TV:
Dream On. "Portrait by the Artist on a Young Man." A woman has a snake
"tattoo" around her body.
Eye on Hollywood (sometime in 1987). One segment was on body painters, had
interviews with Joanne Gair and some other guy.
Geraldo, 2/25. Some kind of club scene discussion. One lady in a loose
fishnet top, painted silver from the waist up.
The Hitchhiker, "Perfect Order." Virginia Madsen painted white.
1991 MTV Video Music Awards. "Nekkid gold women" in Prince's "Gett Off"
production.
1993 Oscars. Gold dancing girls in "A Whole New World" production number.
Nude Body Painting (Ace Video, $24.98).
Penthouse: Art of Desire. Painter rubs paint onto women, who then lie down
on canvas.
Penthouse: Satin and Lace, "Masai Queen." Female explorer meets nice woman
in jungle; they rub ochre paint on each other.
Playboy's Candid Camera (vol. 3?). In one segment, a woman painted as a
statue squirts brainless menials with a water gun.
Playboy's Girls of Rock and Roll. Velveeta '80s music videos, but some
feature girls who have been painted silver, gold, and various
psychedelic patterns.
Playboy's International Playmates, "Restless Natives." One segment features
playmayes made up as felines.
Real Sex 8 (HBO). In the segment on the Exotic Erotica Ball, there is a
(very) brief shot of a topless woman with a leopard paint job.
Rock Video Girls 1. Segment involving woman half-painted as statue.
Rock Video Girls 3. Girl painted bluish-silver.
Sexcetera: The World According to Playboy ('84). One segment is on
French body painting artist Helene Guetary.
The South Bank Show, "Annie Liebowitz." Biography of said photographer.
Camera crew present at Demi Moore painting/photo session.
STNG, "Cost of Living." Painted dancer, nude except for patches glued over
her crotch and breasts.
Unmasked Fantasy. Filmed at Cheetah III in Atlanta, some of the dancers
are painted as animals or have painted-on clothes.
The World of LSD. One segment features hippie body painters.

The Flaming Lips, "Turn it On." Silver, bikini-clad dancer.
Mick Jagger, "Sweet Thing." Various topless dancers painted to blend
in with walls, a la Veruschka (though some have some kind of
patch up front). Strategic blurring by MTV.

Maxine Legroom (Playboy Video Magazine #18). See above for description of
character.
Tom Petty, "Learning to Fly." Topless woman in neck-to-toe psychedlic paint
job. MTV adds strategically-placed shadows.
T-Ride, "Zombies from Hell." Dancers painted grey and black in
animal-like patterns.
Zebra, "Wait Until the Summer's Gone." Old video from '84 or so. A woman
(topless, I think; it's been a while) painted as a zebra covorts
around.

A couple of general photography books by Michael Boys supposedly have a few
