When I re-joined the group after the death of one sister, I thought I could
finally find time to catch up regularly. Then my granddaughter wanted some
more maternity clothes, she had gained so much weight. Then before Easter,
another sister became ill and she begged me almost every day to come to see
her in New Orleans to visit her.

Well, DS and I went over Easter weekend. 8-hours driving over on Friday and
8-hours back on Tuesday. I was worn out, but she went into the hospital on
April 4th and passed away April 22nd. I don't think I've ever been so happy
that I made a trip as I am that I was able to spend those 2-days with her.
Nobody will say, but I believe she had colon cancer; she had complained of
severe stomach pains for a while now. Olivia celebrated her 71st birthday
last October. Her husband had lost his fight with Bright's Disease, for you
that are familiar with it, and then she lost her only son in 2009 from
complications from the lap-band surgery. And she has really had no desire
to live after that.
But she was doing fairly well, till my other sister died in January. They
were close for many years.

I told someone the other day, losing 2-sisters in a 3-and a half months is
difficult, especially when a person is much older than them. But I have so
much to live for now; my DGD gave birth to a healthy, bouncing baby boy,
Nicholas James, on Saturday, April 20th. He weighed 7 lbs. 7 oz. and was
20-inches long at birth. He was exactly 2-weeks early, but DGD had really
gained lots of weight and the doctor was afraid for her health if she went
any longer.

We are going to Orlando for Memorial Day weekend to get acquainted with him.
So now I am making him a couple outfits of Pooh Bear fabric to take him.
His nursery is decorated with Pooh Bear.

It's good to see you back, Emily. Unfortunately, we've reached the time
of life when people desert us, generally before we are ready. My
husband and I were shocked to realize that we are the oldest living
people in our two families. This is a notion that jars with our own
self-concepts, as we are both more accustomed to being told that our
shortcomings are partly due to immaturity. This, of course, is
bitter-sweet. There's nobody now that remembers our turbulent childhoods.

You've already found the best remedy for this, in having new persons
arrive in your family, giving you new focus and a future to look forward
to. It's not that we don't miss those that have gone, but it feels so
much better to remember them with fondness and enjoy the memories, than
to dwell on our loss. Though sometimes I yell at them for not sticking
around.

This is the first time I've been on the computer since I posted the news of
my sister's death.
Thank you for for your sympathy, Beverly.
I made myself a promise today to try to read the sewing groups at least

AFAIK, Joanne, I am the eldest of all my relatives still alive. All but
three cousins on my Dad's side have gone. One is some 10-years younger and
the two other about 13-years younger.

On my Mother's side, none are still alive, or if they are, nobody knows
about where to locate them. I am checking ancestry.com to find out about
them.

It's been almost two years since my cousin died -- she was like a sister
to me in that we were raised together, we fought a lot, and I think I
tried to kill her several times. But I still catch my self reaching for
the phone to call her sometimes, or planning to send her an email. She
doesn't seem to have either a phone or email anymore.

I became ill just before Mother's Day with a severe throat infection and
have not been online again for a while. After a round of strong
antibiotics, the doctor sees no reason I should not go to see the baby, so I
will be gone
8-days, including a quick trip up to SC to see the 4-YO and 14-YO for a
couple days.

Oh Emily,

do go and have a good time. You really deserve it. I find that, although I
read about your two sisters passing away, I don't seem to have written
anything in ways of message of sympathy or such. I'm really sorry I didn't,
and the only excuse I have to offer is that my DD has been acting like mad
all these past months with her ADHD and I having been on the brink of
insanity myself. It definitely was not because I didn't feel for you.
Anyway, I hope you have recovered a little from the first shock of those
losses, and from your infection and antibiotic treatment, too, so that you
can enjoy the baby and all other relatives you are bound to see.

Have a safe journey,

U.

Thank you, Ursula. To tell you the truth, I have not felt well enough to
remember just wh has sent notes of sympathy to me, so thank you so much.
I also wish to thank everyone for the thoughts and prayers. I have 2
severely autistic great-nieces and a nephew with ADHD, plus I taught a
couple years in Special ED, which covers both, so I have an idea of what you
are
dealing with, and if I can help, I'd be happy to do so, but teachers and
counselors there are probably better equipped than me in helping. I've been
retired so long.

On the happy side, two of my DGC graduated from college this month and one
received his Masters; he is entering law school at George Washington U this
fall to get his law degree.
He hopes to practice law in the DC area. The DGD, who graduated from U of
Memphis, is entering the Methodist seminary in the DC area, studying for the
ministry. The youngest DGS graduated from FL Southern
in Music Theory and is planning to attend FL State this fall for his
Masters. I am so proud of these DGC, and they know it. They understand the
grief I've suffered as well as their Moms, who were close to my sisters.

I'l be back on line the first week of June after returning home.
Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.

I'm afraid this holiday is a wash out for me literally and figuratively.
I started feeling ill Sunday evening with what seemed a bad stomach bug,
by yesterday I was much worse and Bill took me to the Urgent Care Center
at my pulmonary doctor's complex. After a very thorough exam I found out
I have pneumonia.I'm taking 2 antibiotics and cough medicine. Bill and
my children have made the case for enforced rest. Not my thing but
working on it. I'm feeling better today but still very tired. i know I
have to behave myself, so I will. It's a little easier knowing that the
bad weather is keeping me inside though.
Sorry to bore all of you. My sewing room is singing it's Sirens Song,
but I'm working hard at resisting it. Those throw pillows will not leave
me without me.

I am so very sorry to hear you've been ill. I sincerely hope you are well
on your way to recovery by now.

Did you take the pneumonia vaccine? I did, but I had it as an infant and
twice since then.
When I've gone to the doctor for this cough/sore throat, he's always checked
my lungs and tells me they are clear. I only hope he is right.

Stay safe in all this bad weather I'm sure you're getting from this first
hurricane of the year.

I'm feeling much better. It took me about 8 days before I felt like
myself. I babied myself for a couple more days before I started back on
my normal schedule. I've had the pneumonia shot twice. Once when I
was60 and the second one when I was 65. The thing is that it doesn't
protect against viral pneumonia. That is much more prevalent.
I back to traveling to see family and right now I'm on Cape Cod for a
few days. The grass was in dire need of cutting and we want to get the
air conditioners in. We were supposed to come out yesterday, but decided
to wait until today because of the heavy rain. Today is just glorious.
Blue skies and comfortable temperature.
thanks for your concern, Also a thanks to Barbara for your note.

Thanks Ursula. We are back home after a very short trip. it was raining
today and will be rainy again tomorrow. Cape Cod is miserable in the
rain, so we decided it best to come home.
On another note, I tried answering you post about your garden. it never
showed on my computer, so I can only think that my posts are not always
getting through again. I love your garden. I also adore the color of
your house. it's so pretty.

Oh, what a pity; yes, the seaside in the rain is only for the strong-minded,
and not even always for them. Sigh... On the other hand, it could have been
worse: Try a rainy seaside vacation in a tent. ;->

That garden reply didn't show up on _my_ computer, either. If it had, I'd
have taken my bow in reply to your flattering remarks on our humble abode
long ago. Thank you! Yes, we like the blue, too; though unusual, it's a
colour we can live with. I hope you will be able to sort out your problems;
