One could argue that Happy Days from 1975-1986 also set the stage, and maybe a
few things before it, but that book seems to be the beginning of the modern
"jerk" movement. It was written by authors who had noticed that Jimmy Carter
and Phil Donahue and Alan Alda had given way to Rambo and Clint Eastwood and
Reagan.
Everything you need to know about women

This is a great example of how limited ray's experience is... like a
child he thinks that his first experience with something must also be how
everybody else first experienced that idea. He can not comprehend of the
concept existing prior to his learning it.
Ray from James Dean to Chris Jones to Elvis to the Beatles to fucking
Hamlet and Robin Hood... the bad boy rebel image has always been
attractive to women.
All that has changed is what it takes in a given society to be the rebel
or bad boy.

Even more interesting is when he becomes petulant when someone else, on
his own, discovers one of these concepts. It is quite predictable: Gordon
chimes in and say that he wrote about it in 1998, long before the other
person discovered the concept. The implication is that since he knew about
it before, that fact somehow makes him a better person than the one who
just discovered the concept on his own.

Unfortunately, this simplistic view overlooks that Sylvester Stallone's
character Rocky was an integral part of the 1970's, as well as Star Wars'
Han Solo.
Although it's nice to know that Gordon accepts the idea that there's a
cyclic view to society and its changes, especially regarding seduction and
romance. That would seem to imply that he realizes that the effectiveness
of his application of the concepts of seduction will necessarily have to
change over time. While this is not contrary to his original claim that
Foxhunting would never need updating or changing, it does lead one to the
conclusion that as people become aware of Foxhunting, it will lose
effectiveness, and many men who put their trust in Foxhunting may find
themselves much older and alone after improving themselves to their limit
(which may not be that high according to Gordon's CUPID system, if one
uses the most conservative of estimates for each category), and waiting
for the Fox who meets their (recommended) outrageously high standards.
Unless, of course, the Foxhunter uses all other women just for sex, in
which case the Foxhunter is morally no better than the ASF player. And one
of Gordon's implications about Foxhunting (as far as ASF is concerned) is
that it is always more moral than any other seduction method, regardless
of how the other methods are practiced and how Foxhunting is practiced.
