Hey George, I was just kidding. There's TONS of art in S.F., it all
depends on what interests you... galleries? museums? studios? public
art?

You don't BELIEVE in abstract art? Ooooh, that could oh-so many ways!
Do you not believe it EXISTS?
Do you not believe it's ART?
Maybe you don't believe abstract artists are real... ;-)
Do tell!!!

[Try Galleryguide for the museum and gallery shows:
http://www.galleryguide.org/ Once you get to one of the galleries, you
should be able to pick up a hard copy, listing local shows.
Here's a site that does a good job of covering local openings:
http://www.artbusiness.com/openings.html (There's lots of good career advice
on this site as well.)
As for studios, if you're there on Oct 8 and 9 (or the weekend after), SF
Open Studios is happening then:
http://www.mesart.com/openstudios_SanFrancisco.jsp If you're not familiar
with the concept, this is an event which coordinates individual artists
willing to host open-house events in their work spaces; you get a map and
wander around dropping in on them. It's a way to see art you'll never see
any other way...]

I know you do abstract stuff so please don't take this personally but...
I don't believe in it because it was jammed down our throats, for political reasons,
as an alternative to the powerful representational art of the New Deal era.
Those artists who initially benefited from abstract art sold out to the right wing.
It basically leaves a bad taste taste in my mouth because of this. I don't think
artists should do it unless they think they have nothing to really say that contributes
to our society.
