Hi everyone,
Hello everyone!
I've been hanging out and asking all my artsy-fartsy questions for a
long time now and want to repay all your helpful suggestions and
answers by inviting you to a new-fangled Barn Raising for my
studio!!!!
I'm in Port Orchard, Washington, USA... Near the Southworth/west
seattle ferry. (and only 50 minutes from Sea-Tac airport for those of
you wanting to fly in for it!!!!!)
(Okay, now those of you who haven't read how Huck Finn got out of
painting the fence, keep reading. . .)
I ordered a 'quonset hut' style building which will be my sculpture
studio, and it was due to arrive at the end of January, but, well, the
truck driver just called me and said he'll have it here THIS THURSDAY,
the 26th.
No. I'm not BUILDING it on the 26th, but I'd love to have it up this
year.
This is an all steel, double-corrigated arch-style building with a
'galvalum' (zinc/aluminum) coating. It's completely a bolt-together
affair and goes up in 2 foot arched sections. Total size: 30' x 50'
x 17' high.
The little pictures in the instruction manual show 5 people putting it
up, 3 on the ground and two on a 14' scaffold, but I could envision 2
more assembling the next section as one is being raised.
If anyone is interested in:
a: helping out of the goodness of their hearts
b: helping because they need me to help them with something
c: helping because they're interested in buying one of these
buildings themselves and want to see how they go together.
d: helping because they know there will be an INCREDIBLE steak dinner
in it for them (tofu steaks available on request)
e: helping because they're terrified they've led a horrible life and
need to get in good with their god before they die.
f: you got new wrenches and 18 volt drills for xmas and are itching
to break 'em in.
g: helping because I'm a pitiful, no-talent artist that has no
friends or social life and the world needs MORE OF US.
Now, if you e-mail me, be aware that it may take Days to get back to
you because of the OVERWELMING volume of offers this request is bound
to receive!
Be patient and I'll answer your e-mail in the order it was received. .
. . . you're e-mail is very important to me. . . . .
I don't have a set date to build this thing, but my thinking goes:
"all these well-paid, highly-skilled artists and art patrons who read
alt.sculpture are currently on two weeks Paid vacation for the
holidays, so NOW is the time to ask!
[. . . but no one has ever said my thinking was sound.]
