Lesley Robertson
Thank you so much Lesley. My special area of study is Southeast Asia,
but to have access to these records is just huge. I may have to start
writing papers about Scotland lol

Cheers, Helen
It's addictive, and fun. Much easier for scots since we have easy
access to the certificates, etc. Give me a shout if you want help.

I went to the funeral today of my first contemporary and 40 year
old friend so time is of the essence my friend. You just never know the
day!!!
Start with the immediate and work back - its not so hard -
until you come across the weird and the wonderful and can't find anything
to confirm the information and you find you are becoming obsessed with
the solution of the riddle.......
Ejay
- who's not really here - just wandered by in a fit of nostalgia
to see what's a' happening

Not you at all m'dear - It was just one of those things that happened
- I had some personal issues to work through after I came back from
my last visit to Scotland; my husband was sick and I was just plain
scunnered with the groups at that time due to all the in fighting,
name calling, real nastiness there was - I didn't need all that angst and
the heart seemed to go out of both of the groups - basically it just
wasn't fun anymore .
I popped in from time to time to see how things were going but even gave
up on that when nothing seemed to change and followed a different path.
I seem to have settled in for a wee visit on SCS and have downloaded
both groups again so you never know I might just stay a bit longer
I'm glad to see you're still here ....
Ejay
It is amazing. I come back after about 6 or 7 years and I see a lot
of the same people here (which is very nice). But then I hear Ejay
talk about arguments with SCS again. OMG I hope that is still not
going on. I do remember the excellent discussions we used to have
about Scottish history (even some fun ones about genetics from Lesley)
but at the same time 'The Ilk" would drop in with some racist comment
to ruin the nice chat.
All in all though it is still a very nice group to stop by and see
again. I figured out how to actually have the group connected to my e-
mail so now I can get the new posted messages sent right to me. This
is great for a group which might only get a new message every week or
so. : )

The culture groups always attract more than their fair share of
nutters - scs only seems bad until you see some of the others! Careful
use of a killfile does wonders for the ambience.
Sadly Ilkie has just returned this week, but since he's posting the
same rubbish, he's fairly easy to ignore.
Good to see you again,
Lesley Robertson
'Some' of the nutters and stouches can be quite amusing - its when they get
vitriolic and malicious I switch off.

Amen to that.......>
Nice to see you're still around - do you still wear your kilt??

Lesley do you know where I can find information on the witch trials
inSotland?
Particularly Clackmannan area .
By chance I recently found the name of one of my ancestors in among a report
from there -
but it was only the name. May not be her of course as it is a popular name
in the area ,
which is why I need more info.
Ejay
True. Presumably he widened his reading while preparing that
self-published book of his. The reviews make entertaining reading....
I must admit that I tend to judge everything against the trash we got
flooded with on the S.African genealogy group before we got it modded.
Makes everything that gets through my killfile on scs look like
kindergarten stuff - and at that time, being innocent little
genealogists, it took us all be surprise.

Edinburgh Uni has a good collection of sources here
http://www.shc.ed.ac.uk/Research/witches/bibliography.html
The numbers refer to the national Archives of Scotland (NAS)
catalogue. If you go there and feed the numbers to their search
engine, it tells you (in varying detail) what you're looking at. The
CH prefix refers to church records, and feeding it the Clackmannan
number (CH2/1242/1) shows that this is about 25 years worth of minutes
which will be expensive to buy as hardcopy. You need someone to go in
and look - pity we didn't have this conversation a couple of weeks ago
as I've just got back! Mind you, 17th century writing being what it
is, it's possibly a day's work.
I'd start with the publications listed in section 4 and see whether
the Internet Archive has them for download.
