Sadly, its not that simple. A new reality has been created, so Spock can't
save Vulcan by saving Romulus. He will have to go directly back in time to
shortly before Nero attacks Vulcan to have any hope of saving Vulcan.

Also, while Vulcan is perfectly safe in Spock's old reality, unless it
ceased to exist, with only one timeline being real, people who live in
alternate timelines are people too!

Congratulations to Spock for recognizing this; but it is too bad that
he won't get to be the man who saved Romulus. I guess that since the
Federation is now without any good enemies, we won't see any more
movies in their reality, which is unfortunate for Kate Mulgrew.
