Sunday's episode featured Stewie and Brian traveling back in time to
stop 9/11, only to learn that that leads to even more dire
consequences. So they go back again to ensure 9/11 happens.

No, they just ripped off Red Dwarf instead of The Simpsons.

Considering MacFarlane was supposed to be on one of those planes on
9/11, I've kinda given him a pass on making those jokes (which he's
rarely done anyway...)

I agree, No. Especially since they really didn't satirize 9-11....

More like SNL's Falconer Time Travel skit:

Red Dwarf was off the air in the previous decade by the time Falconer
came to SNL.

That's weird. "China, IL" did the exact same joke on the exact same
day.

Yes, but if you mean the episode I think you mean, there weren't
multiple Rimmers and Listers in it.

That's because they were in the episode just before that.

Wen Gottfried said it wasn't even 22 days later!

"Saturday Night Live" had a sketch the shooting of Lee Harvey Oswald in 1976,
just some 13 years later. Not as shocking as if it was the JFK assassination
itself they were joking abut but still enough to shock people by joking about
anything with that tragedy that was a mere thirteen years in the past by that
time.
