They're just conducting an empirical test that this isn't possible -
otherwise the winner of the auction would be able to make a mint, and
send the money or valuable information back in time to pay for the
auction. Oh, no, wait a minute, the seller kindly allowed a grace
period, because he can't manipulate time... oh, wait...

Or, maybe they're a few nuts short of a squirrel. I wonder which has
the higher probability...

After reading the EBay page, I did a Google search. Apparently this guy
has been trying to sell his manuscript for some time, without success.
When it didn't sell for ten million dollars, he upped the price to 25
million dollars, apparently thinking that the higher price would make it
more desirable. In one case, he told someone posing as a member of the
press that he would be willing to give an interview, but the reporter
would have to pay him one million dollars before the interview would take
place.

I would think it's the other way around: while they may be short
on squirrels, the nut supply is more than adequate.
