[I've searched the dejagoogle archives, and I cannot seem
to track down some of the advice y'all gave me a couple of
years back regarding sound level meters. Forgive me for
the repeat question(s)!]

I need to measure the noise radiating from a rotating
machine we manufacture. Where do I go to learn the
implications of Type 1, Type 2, etc.? Are there any
brands out there that are particularly good "bargains"
for portable handheld units? I not only need to be
able to measure the A-weighted noise at various locations
around the unit, I quite likely will need to see the
actual noise spectrum. Given that I have an HP analyzer
available, I suppose I could make do with an SPL meter
that could hook up to the analyzer, or perhaps even
dump data to a PC for doing subsequent spectral analysis,
but it sure would be nice if there was at least one
product out there that can display FFT data. Is there?

Thanks for any advice,

Hello Jim

Look at:
http://www.noisenet.org/Noise_Instrumentation.htm

You find most suppliers and links to.. there.

I know Larson Davis http://www.lardav.com/ has a combination hand-held
including FFT
There must be others.
Lots will give FFT as an option to, or separate equipment.
Check the links to get a picture.

Note:
The best, easiest and most complete way to check something in the
newsgroups archives is:
http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search
or:

Kind regards
Eric

Yeah, I did this, and couldn't find much of what
I had been told back in my original search. I think
what happened is that several folks *emailed* me.
I need to go get old email folders off DAT and check
them out.

Thanks again,

Hi Kostas,

Your URL

THE WEB ADDRESS IS HTTP://www.01db-stell.com. WE USE SOME OF THEIR EQUIPMENT
LIKE SYMPHONIE IN TWO CHANNELS AND ARE EXCELLENT. THEIR SOUND LEVEL METERS
TYPE 02 ARE EXCELLENT FOR MACHINERY NOISE MEASUREMENT. THEY HAVE SOFTWARES TO
COLLECT DATA ACQUIRED IN THE SOUND LEVEL METER TOO.

Sad only in the sense that the web is not 100% reliable. Get used to
pages occasionally being unavailable.

That address does work, and (besides taking you to their site) has a
nice little popup annoncing the new url that Jose has given.
