sci.physics.acoustics newsgroup formed; participants welcome there.

Many of us on this alt.sci.physics.acoustics. newsgroup have enjoyed the
access we have had to each others' talents and thoughts for the almost 15
years of its existence. At the same time some of us have also lamented that
the "alt." status apparently discourages inclusion of this newsgroup on many
servers only because of the limited nature of alt groups in general.
Very recently, our efforts at creating "sci.physics.acoustics" have
resulted in the formation of the new Big-8 newsgroup "sci.physics.acoustics"
which will surely find its way to a much larger technical audience. We
decided to make sci.physics.acoustics unmoderated. Therefore spa--- may also
find its way there from time to time. But with the many new message filters
and filter methods now in play, we believe that this will not be a serious
problem for our proceedings.
So, for those of us that look for a larger audience to air our problems
and discussions, sci.physics.acoustics may serve that purpose well.
So tune up your readers to find and subscribe to sci.physics.acoustics,
or look for alternative newsnet servers that carry it, and enjoy!

Some may ask; "What happens to alt.sci.physics.acoustics" (a.s.p.a).
The original plan was to continue a.s.p.a for perhaps a year, then have
newsnet send out an announcement that it is being discontinued.
But I was advised that the complete dissolution of any newsgroup is just
about impossible since servers can entertain messages posted thereon
indefinitely.
I suspect that there are now many hundreds of formerly chartered alt.
newsgroups that are in this "Flying Dutchman" category. Sometimes they are
hijacked for various unrelated uses. I suspect that server "sweeping"
actions to rid them will be the norm in a few years. But all of that is in
the vague future.
