canale 5 now scrambled every evening/night

It was previously fta, has anyone seen any news-links regarding this
change being permanent.

On the same transponder there is a new CANALE 5 service, which is almost
always FTA.
The quality of this service is however quite poorer than the now
permanenently encrypted one.

Permanent or temporary? Who knows...
My very personal opinion is that it is going to be permanent and that
the same trend is also going to negatively effect also the other
Mediaset channels...

I agree.

I think this must be a move to encourage Italian viewers to go out and buy
one of the new TIVU boxes for the encrypted services.

Card is free issue - at present.

Two years ago linowsat.de bit rate figures for Canale 5 were averaging
around 7500 kb/s, whereas todays average on the FTA Canale 5 is less than
half that at 3000 kb/s while the encrypted service is still at around 7000
kb/s

I'm hoping RAI are not part of this 'encouraging' agreement and won't go the
same way. Their bit rates are somewhat lower to start with at around 5000
Kb/s.
