I put a LIDL receiver, into a Belgium friend of mines house, to get
Belgium TV channel "VTM" which Lyngsat says is free. He reports on the
first night he could get it free. Two days later he says it now comes
up now as being a scrambled channel. Anybody have a dish set-up for
Asrtra1, who could check this for me please, TIA.

Mark in Spain.

VTM is encrypted. It may have been FTA for one or a few days, there
have been problems with the encryption on channels in this package
recently. Maybe someone incorrectly reported it to Lyngsat as free.

I think the only free (partly) Belgium channel he can receive on
Astra1 is BVN.

The Lyngsat entry is dated 9th June so it might be a new service which
has started up FTA for the first few days (an older saved page does
not show it at all) as will be found occasionally.
BVN at 19.2deg is shown as the Netherlands version (i.e. it links to
bvn.nl not bvn.be).

BVN is a co-production between Belgian and Dutch TV. That is why
I wrote (partly).

I wasn't sure if you were attaching it to "free" or "Belgium"; some
channels are encrypted/FTA part-time such as e.g. RAI 1 which is
usually FTA but often encrypts when there is a football match on.

However, as ususal for subscription TV, you need to be a resident of
the country to be able to subscribe. So she will need cooperation from
someone in Belgium who will order and pay for the card and will send it
on to Spain.

Rob, thanks mate, they reside in Belgium and have a holliday home
(actually its more like an country estate) over here. So getting a
card should not be an issue.

The TV Vlaanderen site is of course all in Dutch, could not work out
where to find a list of the channels they carry, on the site, are the
four channels I mentioned previousley, carried by them? TIA

Yes, and some more.

* Charles Ellson:

VTM might have been FTA at the same time at the beginning of this month
as the Dutch RTLs 4/5/7/8 on 19.2°E
Nederland 1,2 & 3 still are, BTW.

So they are! The last time the main Dutch channels were FTA was IIRC
when they had some major change with their encryption and were FTA for
about a week. Something is still there as I'm getting "Unknown"
encryption shown in operation. It does not seem to be accidental as
other channels on the same transponder are still encrypted.

This happens infrequently and it seems to be related to problems with
the equipment. Although this time it takes a bit longer than usual
to solve.
Last week there was a day when about all the programs from the package
were FTA, but most of them went back to SECA+IRDETO as usual. But
NED 1/2/3 still not.
The major change in encryption (card swap) is already done in the past
months, I don't think it is related to that.

maybe the person who wants the flemish channel can buy an 2nd card of
someone who have a account and a card of TVV.
the 2nd card (flemish package) is 2€ a month and have the 10 flemish
channels that are on the transponder where you have seen it FTA.

It IS related to that. The dutch provider canaldigitaal and the belgian
provider tv-vlaanderen have done a card change. It has left several
customers in limbo (old card disabled, new one not send / hardware that
is incompatable), so to let the customers watch channels they have
temporarily removed the encryption of channels.

Like you said, most of them are encrypted again, but the reason for that
is the cardswap that went not like planned.

Without a belgian address and bank account, that's not possible. Watching
those channels is only allowed for belgian people. So unless you have
friends / relatives, there is no way you are going to get a subscription
outside the designated country (unfortunately).

This is very unlikely.
The canaldigitaal package consists of many channels, and only the
NED1/2/3 channels were not encrypted. Very popular channels like
RTL4/5 and SBS6 were encrypted. If there was a problem with the cards
those would be clear as well.

have a look on the dutch satellite forum boards if you do not believe me,
and read all about the seca 3 card swap from canal digitaal and tv-
vlaanderen.

By the way, the commercial dutch stations were all unencrypted at some
point in time too. NEd1,2,3 were the last ones to be encrypted again.

cheers,

Apparently some people have problems. But it is a strange problem because
I have an unsupported receiver as well and no problems. Always had picture
before and after this FTA period.

Just have a look at the usual satellite television distributors and you
can buy the packages/ cards
