More and more children these days dream of making it in showbiz
- whether as models, actors or pop singers. It is probably no
coincidence that there is a boom in casting shows on television.
Would-be stars and their parents are ambitious and eager.
Their disappointment is correspondingly great when things don't
turn out the way they hoped. Just looking cute isn't enough.
Talent is required, as well as discipline and hard work.
It is often the ambition of pushy parents that drives their
offspring onto the stage and into the studio. But that kind
of pressure can be bad for children: they can loose their
spontaneity; they can feel - and look - harried.
Without natural charm and ease, however, they don't stand a
chance. Alongside respectable agents, unscrupulous people also
seek to profit in dishonorable fashion from the dreams of the
young. Our report accompanies some children on their trajectory
towards stardom. How do they deal with sudden fame? What is it
like to work on a film set? How exciting is a casting? And how
do would-be stars that fail to shine brightly enough - and their
parents - deal with setbacks or even failure?
