I read some articles in this group about peoples bad problems with europe
online.. is it really that bad? all i want to be able to do (if i progress
from isdn to satellite) is recieve newsgroup downloads thru newsgrabber
(that should work as it has a option for a proxy) and from the web also
using gozilla. Napster should work thru the proxy setting as well surely..?

i dont want it for online gaming, isdn is still fine for that with pings of
35-50 on average. but these postings about the service of europe online make
me think twice - i spoke to someone the other day who has a friend with
satellite access - he is getting me his details (service provider he uses,
etc) - he gets average of 350k/sec dl speed and peaks at 840k....... so i
was told, i dont know what truth there is to it though.

i just want to hear other peoples opinions on it all, as UK is still not
overwhelmed with companys offering satellite access - www.europeonline.com
and www.eurosky.net seem to be the only 2 big ones pushing it..

any other opinions about the whole thing are appreciated.. its a lot of cash
to shell out if it aint noticibly better and if it aint allowing access to
napster, newsgroups, etc..

Hey Paka Ding Ding (Cute!!!)

I subscribe to Europe Online via Eurosky.
The first thing I should say after two weeks of being a member is that
it is a pig to configure. I am no newbie when it comes to setting up
internet accounts but the Eurosky gig is a dogs dinner. Second, the
speed for general web browsing is quite ordinary, slightly slower than
my normal ISP on times, Clara, who I proxy the connection through. On
the plus side, the downloads are pretty impressive. I get 30k minimum
a second no problem and the special 2MB per second download which you
have to queue is all it says it is.
Having said all that, is it worth it? Verdict is still out on that
one. For myself I have no chance of adsl or isdn for that matter and
satellite is my only chance of decent speed until maybe 'radio waves'
take off (if ever)
So I will continue to use it as the best I can get.
Hope this helps a little.
Cheers
John

PS: As usual I cannot recommend the tech support for Eurosky they
couldn't tie a shoelace.
Good Luck

Thanks for that info.. all peoples opinions are welcomed, as it helps me
make the decision on wether to switch to satellite. i only have one question
for you John - do you download off the web or news servers? i like
downloading off newsroups a lot, and that is the main reason im considering
satellite - if i can get the higher download speeds off the binaries
newsgroups, thats the decision maker for me.. so let me know john if you are
able to download off newsgroups okay (with decent speeds). the program i use
is newsgrabber 3.23 - great for downloading binaries from newsgroups!

i use claranet as one of my isps, amongst others such as bt & rha (fucking
shite at the moment)

thanks john

As far as newsgroups go I have not found a way of using Agent my
newsreader yet. It is possible to download off newsgroups via the web
but as far as I can see would need subscription to paid service, still
exploring this one.
Good sight to look at is:

Lots of info and links on there

EON do in fact carry newsgroups but NO binaries, they were
removed quite some time ago.
