BEWARE GARMIN TREACHERY

FROM GARMIN before the purchase, that I could use mapsource with it and
create a mapset using both Mexico AND the CNNA 2010.2
Guess what?
The download erased my CNNA 2010 and replaced it with the Mexico NT, which
of course MapSource does not know exists.
I did save the .img file from CNNA and reloaded my 76csx.
DESPITE TELLING ME I COULD USE IT WITH MAPSOURCE AND THEN (after buying it)
TELLING ME I CAN'T, THEY NOW ALSO REFUSE TO REFUND MY MONEY
Ask me how pi**ed I am!!

Not correct !!! You sure can use Mex and US at the same time. In MapSource
you select the entire US ( or what parts you want ), then Select MEX and
then send the file to your 76CSx !!! I do that all the time.
I have CNNA 2010, CNMex, some Bluechart and some Canada Topo maps all loaded
in one .img file. You just can't go over the map and size limit !!!
But it sure works.

JCE, I don't understand....
When I point at or lasso any of the areas in the US, they get yellow borders
and appear in the map pane.
But no yellow in Mexico....
I suspect that is because MapSource doesn't know I have the CN Mex because I
bought the download version.
All I got was the .img file loaded onto my 76CSx--wiping out CNNA 2010.
Did you buy the mex DVD?
Was there an executable file on it?

sounds like your Mexico Map is not registered yet. You need to register the
Mexico maps and than put in MapSource the Unlock code !! Once you've done
that, you should be able to select all of Mexico as well in addition to
CNNA. Works great here !!!
As long as you can't select the maps you can't transfer them either !!!

There was no unlock code associated with my download.
It simply plopped the .img file on my card and that was it.
Was your download CN Mex by chance an upgrade?
Garmin sys that's a different story.
When I downloaded CNNA 2010.2 there was an executable with it

You might take a look at your MyGarmin account and see if it's registered
there.
You might also sync your MapSource registrations with MyGarmin using the
unlock wizard which used to be part of MapSource and more recently has been
disconnected from MapSource but still in the MapSource folder. Don't know if
Garmin has whacked it in more recent MapSource updates, but it used to be
there.
If that doesn't work, it's probably time to give Garmin a call.

The downloaded map didn't need a code because it was downloaded directly to
the unit
They said I was SOL

Isn't this the classic problem of how to get the map product ?
If you download, what do you physically get ?
just the image for the GPS, or the other "stuff" for Mapsource to use as a
map ?
I have both an old DVD, along with a downloaded file,
but can't recall what the download gave me to use on the desktop - if
anything -

I very much should have listened to Harold Muller when he gave me this link
in a previous thread regarding combining maps.

I downloaded their 1MB sample map of Puebla, Mexico.
It came with an executable file and MapSource recognized & incorporated the
map seamlessly.
If Garmin had done the honorable thing and refunded my money...I'd have gone
to bicimapas in a heartbeat!
