The problem is that there was no dvd shipped with the unit so I have no
way to load the maps onto my PC for MapSource. I do have the 2008 maps
so I'm not completely stymied.
The unit broke after about a month, sent it back and they repaired it,
no problem, great service. When I talked to the guy about that I asked
about a DVD and he said they don't do them any more. Since my priority
was getting the hardware fixed I let it go.
Is the guy full of it? Should I call back? Anybody got a unit lately
that included a DVD for 2009 NT?

in a nutshell - NO -
When did you receive an original map + mapsource DVD with your GPS ?
You should be able to order the mapsouce DVD witht he updated maps
from Garmin for free once you register the GPS receiver.
First one we bought, Nuvi350, about four years ago. Copyright says 2005.
I bought nuvi265 last fall - no DVD. I have never used Mapsource. I never
heard of it until browsing here ( and I still don't know what it is)

Maybe. You can still buy City Navigator NT on DVD.

Why not?
My experience has always been that Garmin's been very free with the
DVDs, since they're useless without the unlock code.
However, since Garmin's currently selling City Navigator 2010, you might
not be able to get a DVD for 2009 regardless.

Unlock codes are easily found, turning "useless" into "useful".
I don't know about that.
But since the existing DVDs and memory cards can be copied with no
problem, the supposed availability of unlock codes shouldn't make the
distribution of new DVDs any more of a liability than it ever was.
I suppose that the OP could just ask around for a copy of the 2009 DVD
and use the unlock code(s) he already has.
torrents. look it up
