For those who are not aware, be advised that there has been a recent CLASS ACTION settlement obtained in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland, against the defendant (and marketer of DirecPC), HUGHES ELECTRONICS CORPORATION. The Case (No. 189113) resulted in the entry of an ORDER, on January 13, 2000 (the "Final Approval Order"), that would permit all members of the class action (subscribers who used the DirecPC Service from October 1, 1997, through November 1, 1999), to "request that Hughes repurchase your DirecPC Equipment Package..." (under certain court-defined conditions).

OK. I've done enough for one day!
Dave
Hi Dave:
I saved a copy of the original suit at:
http://hwy39.net/dpc_sucks/dpc_suit_filed.html It's been up there for
years along with a few other keepsakes from the old DPC days.
Of course there were tons of other legal documents involved, but they
found the bit bucket years ago.
As I recall, part of the settlement ordered DPC to be straightforward
regarding its FAP policy. Maybe it should be reminded of that.
I loaded this group because a friend who uses DPC ( or whatever it's now
called) has been trying to download a fairly large Linux ISO from my ftp
server, but after downloading a couple of hundred megs he he can barely
connect for the past couple of days. He has a high-end service plan,
too. It's used on his RV during the winter, then set up stationary at
his res during the summer months.
Maybe some of the other old timers from the period can elaborate on the
settlement. But I scrolled up and down the headers I pulled down and
didn't really find any familiar faces.
Be well,
Ben
We never corresponded much in the older days but I definitely recall you!
Thank you so much for posting that link. At one time the settlement document
was mailed to me as a qualifying member of the class but has long since disappeared,
probably tossed. I opted out of the class at that time, because I was still using
the system and had no other alternative at the time and felt like I needed to preserve
my legal rights.

Yes I agree. That *was* one of the terms of the original settlement order.

It's been a long time. Lloyd Parsons posted maybe almost a year ago and
nothing much since then. If they are still lurking here, they're probably
just shaking their heads thinking, some things never change...

You too Ben.
Good Luck,
