This is a problem, yes. You should probably not sail the boat like
this, because the spreader angled forward instead straight athwartship
or slightly aft will push the mast out of column in the wrong
direction. Masts are generally designed to have a slight fore/aft bow,
not a aft/fore bow!
The spreader will not dimple the mast if there is a reinforcement
plate or a compression bar, as there often is in well-built boats. If
the spreader has not dimpled the mast before, it almost certainly
won't now.
Fixing it.... I would see if I could find a welder who can fix the
holes cheaper than getting a new spreader. Make a template to hold the
spreader in the position you want before drilling the holes this time.
