The report, from the Center for College Affordability and Productivity,
concludes that while college-educated Americans are less likely to
collect unemployment, many of the jobs they do have aren't worth the
price of their diplomas.
The data calls into question a national education platform that says
higher education is better in an economy that favors college graduates.
President Obama has challenged the nation's universities to increase the
number of degrees they grant by using federal funding as an incentive in
a race-to-the-top-styled program. On the campaign trail, he outlined his
administration's goal to boost the country’s college graduation rate to
60 percent by 2020.
In a response to the challenge last week, The Ohio State University
President E. Gordon Gee wrote, “If we do not as a nation increase the
number of graduates, then we risk the very foundation of the American
Dream."
The report’s authors ask if the American Dream really reflects the
current economic reality.
Of 41.7 million working college graduates in 2010, about 48 percent of
the class of 2010 work jobs that require less than a bachelor’s degree,
and 38 percent of those polled didn’t even need high school diplomas,
the report found. Authors Richard Vedder, Jonathan Robe and Christopher
Denhart said that the country could be overeducating its citizens, and
asked if too many public dollars are spent on producing graduates that
the nation's economy doesn't need.
In 2010, 39.3 percent of adults between the ages of 25 and 34 had a
post-secondary degree, up from 38.8 percent in 2009. While the rate has
creeped up steadily since 2008, underemployment has kept pace, according
to Vedder's research -- the report found that the number of college
grads will grow by 19 million between 2010 and 2020, while the number of
jobs requiring that education is expected to grow by less than 7 million.
In the report's executive summary, the researchers claimed that 15
percent of taxi drivers had at least a bachelor's degree in 2010,
compared to 1 percent in 1970 -- despite little change in the job's
requirements -- as one illustration of their findings.
While long-term trends show that jobs are shifting toward people with
more education, the report notes that there's no shortage of talent and
no guarantee that a diploma is a golden ticket. Researchers said
students should focus their education on workforce demand until the
economy can create jobs requiring special skills at higher rates.

глубже в ж@опе. Практически весь хайтек _УЖЕ_ уехал в Китай и окрестности.
И нет, это не "мы тут умные всё придумываем и всем руководим, а те жёлтые
обезьяны для нас за чашку риса въ@ёбывают". Он уехал весь, _МЫ_ им для
того _СОВСЕМ_ не нужны. То, что здесь ещё осталось, существует лишь потому,
что они ещё свой рынок не насытили и не развернулись в нашу сторону. Внутри
себя наши супервысокие технологии прошлого века, с документацией на
непонятном иностранном языке, с возможными ограничениями и запретами, и к
тому же значительно дороже своих собственных, им просто _СОВСЕМ_ не нужны.
Это даже не вопрос конкурентоспособности, оно просто совсем не надо, то
есть вообще.
Сегодня весь тот рынок, который много больше всех омерик и, прости г-ди,
европ вместе взятых, потерян полностью и бесповоротно. То есть нам наши
"высокие" технологии осталось поставлять только самим себе. Даже если бы
мы и вдруг, то в ту сторону одни только пошлины на ввоз делают всю затею
абсолютно неинтересной никому там. Даже если бы мы даром поставляли. И по
"высокости" тоже уже пора перестать самих себя обманывать. Анмасс, тсзть,
мы в самом лучшем случае _не сильно хуже_ , уже даже не на одном уровне.
Попробуйте написать email куда-нинаебуть, например, в On Semiconductor
(некогда Motorola) и ответ получите от чисто омериканского инженера по
имени Чонг Куй с характерной разницей во времени. При этом тот инженер уже
даже и не маскируется называясь джонсмитом. И, кстати, это в большинстве
случаев будет хороший и знающий своё дело инженер, не местный кумарпател.
Пока ещё мы как-то по инерции ещё продолжаем вариться в своём соку, сбывая
наши товары внутри себя. Рост экономики давно прекратился и уже никогда
не возобновится, но мы ещё как-то крутимся пока есть возможность между
своих свой крап сбывать.
Настоящий же п@#дец наступит тогда, когда они решат свои высокие технологии
продавать не только внутри себя, а и поставлять нам. Результат будет таким
же как с теми марсианами в "Войне Миров" -- вся пока ещё немного живая своя
промышленность просто вымрет без следа в момент. Тем более, что ворота в
нашу сторону открыты настежь -- никаких пошлин вообще для основной массы
товаров. Хотя к тому времени нас вполне может смести с лица планеты совсем
очередное местное кумарпателское технологическое чудо "высокой технологии"
так что им и поставлять зеркальца и бусы будет некому.
