I've seen a lot of theories here for the no-brainers who are now loudly announcing how unaffected they are by L'affaire Cobain, and I must say, a lot of them are VERY GOOD explanations, too.
I liked especially the parts about a junior-high health class conception of suicide, and the stuff about the violent reaction to the harsh lesson that all those things we've been taught will guarantee happiness sometimes don't.
Apart from that, though, I'd really like to look at the mindset behind tha accusations that the people who are most upset over the incident were taking things far too seriously. It's the irony of ironies that the opposite is true. Over and over again, the cheers for KC's death seem to be from people that have the most trouble separating Rock Mythology from Real Life (tm). I don't know if it's a synapse that doesn't click until you reach a certain age or what, but all the cheering seems to include notes about how Nirvana/Grunge really "sucked" anyway, or Kurt was sucking "corporate cock" or that he kicked the bucket to ensure legendary status for himself.
In other words - the thoughts that could only come from people that are waaaaay too wacky to separate a History of Rock Legends comic book from Real Life. These are the people who don't realize "Beavis & Butt-head" is about them.
These are the people who seriously discuss weighing the pros and cons of, for example, Jimi Hendrix's legendary status and his early death. "Death as a career move", a long-standing industry JOKE, has become very real and lost all its punch, I'm afraid.
The idea that a Bob Dylan or Mick Jagger would, for example, defy these jokesters' wish to be massively entertained, and that these stars would dare stick around well past the time they've supposedly worn out their welcome, irritates these jokesters to no end, for some reason.
I'll leave to the sociologists the task of figuring out where the stunted emotional growth comes from. It's not interesting.
The people most upset over this tragedy have figured out the difference between the value of human life and the value of their personal entertainments. It's not an adolescent schoolgirl fantasy to figure out there's a human being behind the grungy jeans, and think about *him*. It is, however, the rich fantasy life of a Nintendo-playing eight-year-old to think the pile of now-lifeless mangled flesh was entirely explained by, and can be appraised by, the worth of his art.
Oh, yeah - the thread title. All you Cobain-bashers have tiny dicks.
I must admit that I haven't this thread at all. Mostly because his deat HAS NOT effected me much at all. This is the ONLY msg I've read in the this newsgroup whith his name even in the title.
First of all, I (and probably MANY other rock fans were too) was VERY upset when MTV called Curt this generations John Lennon. Lennon touched peoples lives not only with his music but his peotry and art and politcs. He was a unique individual and the comparison is almost unthinkable to me.
No, people shouldn't trivialize the human side of things about suicide but they shouldn't martyrize it either. Suicide is simply wrong. It's giving up on your problems. Is that the legacy Curt wanted to leave? That he just gave up on his life? Kinda sad if ya ask me.
Also, I'll criticize Curt Corbain's musicianship as well as Nirvana as much as I feel regardless of the Beavis and Butthead mentality of people like you. I really don't care if you don't think I have a life. The fact is, Curt had a terrible voice, Nivana had a terrible and simple sound. Grundge is a fad, the same as punk rock in the early 80's, and disco in the late 70's. Yeah, it will have it's influence on rock. But, it will die and rock will remain. The same cycle has exsisted for 40 years.
Maybe Curt Corbain bashers have small dicks, I don't know, I don't go around comparing. But, you and they both have very small ears cuz you definitely are not listening to what each other are saying, you are too busy shouting.

Many Cobain fans are upset at the garbage here from the anti-Cobainers. What's your point?
>Lennon touched peoples >lives not only with his music but his peotry and art and politcs. He was a >unique individual and the comparison is almost unthinkable to me.
Who cares?

Just had your Junior-high lesson on suicide, didya?
>Also, I'll criticize Curt Corbain's musicianship as well as Nirvana as much as >I feel regardless of the Beavis and Butthead mentality of people like you.
Please come up with original insults.
>I really don't care if you don't think I have a life.
Then why have you responded?
>Maybe Curt Corbain bashers have small dicks, I don't know, I don't go around >comparing.
Let's start. How big is yours?
>But, you and they both have very small ears cuz you definitely are >not listening to what each other are saying, you are too busy shouting.
Actually I could care less that he has kicked the bucket. I see the Cobain bashers as sick and tired about hearing about the guy, reading the "He touched a Generation" headlines, and all that crap.
OK, go by your theory, under the grunge was a man. If I died you wouldn't give a shit. Why make a big deal over some jackass who shoots himself. Regardless of his posisition in life. Unless you know him (and don't give me the I know him through his lyrics) you are very hypocritical if you say his death is some huge tradgedy. Why aren't you out crying for all of the other people who shot themselves.
Enough pop psycology on this thread. In an attempt to downplay the previous post, I just ended up using some myself.

Neener Neener Neener.
>OK, go by your theory, under the grunge was a man.
Ok. Maybe it was a woman.
>If I died you >wouldn't give a shit.
You got that right. Feelin' a little stroke o' self-pity, eh?
>Why make a big deal over some jackass who >shoots himself.
OK, go by your theory, under the smoking gun was a jackass.
>Unless you >know him (and don't give me the I know him through his lyrics)
I never did, sweetie.

Tra La La.

Because they're "jackasses"?
>Enough pop psycology on this thread. In an attempt to downplay the >previous post, I just ended up using some myself.
Weren't none 'till you participated, dude.
I didn't offer any theories as to WHY the Cobain-bashers had seriously confused celebrity mythology and real life. I was only pointing out the symptoms.
I'll leave it to Oprah to say they lacked self-esteem.

Despite a good first article, this has become the pettiest thread of so far. But nevertheless, my 2c:

The media made a big deal. Most of the Cobaine defendants are just responding to mindless crap from "anti-Cobainers". I, personally, am no more sorry for Kurt than for anyone else who kills themself (although, in his favour, he was not know to have abused children, committed rape, caused grievous bodily harm, or other things that *some* suicidal people do which reduce my sympathy). -- David Jay

As a Nirvana fan, I was upset when Kurt was compared to John Lennon. John Lennon was a no-talent dumbfuck without whom the world is a better place. -- ar...@hebron.connected.com Seattle, WA -- "Nitimur in vetitum" - Ovid "Stupid to the point of holiness" - Russian idiom
