I know that Marty Friedman and Jason Becker are good friends.
I heard both Perpetual Burn by Becker (Friedman also plays in it) and
Dragon's Kiss by Friedman. Now, Friedman is playing for Megadeath.
What is Jason Becker doing? I heard he has some sort of disease that is
slowly paralyzing him. That is a shame.

Secondly, on the question of pussy bands, I have one
thing to say. If a band plays tunes that either a) Want to be a hit
(Top Ten), b)Want a teenage girl following, or c)Must counter fast
songs with a slow one on a record (especially love songs)...in my
mind...they are a pussy band.

I can answer the Jason Becker question. Unfortunately, Jason has Lou
Gehrig's disease, which has affected his muscles so badly now that he can
no longer play guitar. It only used to be as bad as him not being able to
walk. I read somewhere (Guitar Player maybe) that he is still writing
music through the use of computers. I think that it would be cool if he
could get a bunch of famous musicians together to record an album for him.
By the way, how did you get the Cacophony stuff, and Perpetual Burn? I've
seen ads for the stuff mail order, but I'd rather buy it in store. Did
you order it through a store?

Last I heard, he was playing in David Lee Roth, but yes, he is suffering from
I think Lou Gehrig (sp?) 's disease and it will eventually kill him.

There's such a thing as putting variety on an album, so usually, to keep an
album from being boring, a variety of tempos from song to song or within a
song are often employed. This is commonly practiced in classical music, and
many heavy metal bands have taken from that (as several heavy metal composers
studied classical music in their youth. Look at Steve Clark, Ronnie James Dio,
Alex Skolnick, for example. Certainly there are countless others.) so it's
not really "pussy music." Now, a disproportionate number of mushy ballads
would seem to indicate an inherent desire in a band to be multiplatinum artists
and be on hte front cover of every rock magazine and always be on MTV, etc.
Now, that would more probably fit under what you consider "pussy band,"
although I would prefer to just call consider it elevator music, because
that's just about what it's been reduced to, bereft of all potential
emotion.

Of course. No problem.

So what you are saying is that Metallica is a pussy band. I DON'T THINK SO!
IMHO, I think that "Nothing Else Matters" and "Unforgiven" are great tunes
off of the METALLICA album. What about "Fade to Black"? That's pretty slow
through most of the song, except for the ending. I think it shows a band's
talent when they can acutally COMPOSE a song rather than bangin' away and thrashing
through songs as fast as they can.

But, I guess you have to do what you feel...................

Later!

GET A LIFE, WANG! YOU BAD! I meant that if a band tries to play
sappy love songs that sound almost like R&B, it should be counted as a
group that is not writing music for what they feel, but to sell
albums...REAL MUSICIANS must learn to write what they feel, not what
others want to feel.
Mr.Motto, I am a great fan of Metallica. Their slow songs all
have very deep meanings, not the I LOVE YOU,HONEY effect that many
(TRIXTER,FIREHOUSE) bands base every damn song on. I agree with you
totally...I must have worded it wrong.
Finally, I got the cassete of Perpetual Burn from a friend. I
liked it so much (espescially "AIR") that I still haven't returned it.
I think he got it from Tower Records. The same company also distributed
Marty Friedman's album Dragon's Kiss (highly recommended). Try 'em out!

AND AGAIN...THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME!

Becker and Friedman play on each others solo albums, but what you want
are the two albums by Cacaphony, their band.

Both On Shrapnel, but the production is far above their average.

Speed Metal Symphony
Go Off!

SMS is the guitar meltdown, particularly on "Ninja", "Desert Island", and
the title track. "Go Off!" is a little more commercial, but Jason has more'
input and the guitars kill. Peter Marino <LeMans, Marino-Dimancari ?> is
an acquired taste on vocals <he was actually much better live!>, but
the music is great, with killer drumming by Atma Anur <SMS> and Deen
Castronova <He went to Bad English>. Kenny Stavropoulos <LeMans> toured
with them. The touring bassist joined Starship <!?>.

Friedman went to Megadeth, and Becker did "Little Ain't enough" with
David Lee Roth <he replaced Vai!>, but he had to back out of the tour
because his Lou Gehrig's disease flared up. Hoping he gets in another
band soon! He is awesome!

I think you really should stop equating bands to sexual organs. This
is the kind of juvenile attitude that is expected of pre-pubescent boys,
insecure in their manhood, but it really is suprising to see it displayed
here in what I thought was an adult forum. I mean if the bands that you
describe are what you consider "pussy bands", then what do you consider
the bands that have all fast songs, "big man-sized dick bands"?
"Ooh, these guys are hard! And listen to how fast they can play! They
are obviously *real* men with large penises."
